Director of Nursing
The Center for Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine, LLC (CFWH) provides management and consulting services to healthcare providers in the area of wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Job Overview
The Director of Nursing is responsible for directing Nursing/Patient Care Services to include assisting Program Directors with clinical staff management, guidance on case management, extensive chart reviews, utilization of services reviews, and discharge planning.
Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all wound care and hyperbaric patients. Maintains performance improvement activities within the wound centers and participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
Oversees and participates in clinical education initiatives, including but not limited to, creating content and administering training. This position will directly oversee Nursing Administrators and Clinical Auditors. The Director of Nursing will travel up to 50% of the time.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Understands and practices the prescribed philosophy, purpose, policies, and standards of wound and hyperbaric nursing protocols.
- Organizes, directs, and administers the Nursing/Patient Care Services in order to provide the level of care required by the organization’s medical and nursing standards.
- Manages the Clinical Assessment (CA) department/staff, including performance reviews, time-off, coaching, quarterly 1-1s and goal setting.
- Oversees all initial patient and advanced wound care therapy referrals and patient charts for accuracy to ensure the patient qualifies for treatment prior to appointment. Communicate and follow up on corrections with appropriate staff.
- Travel to clinics throughout the company for clinical education (new and existing employees), new center opening support, and to cover clinical shifts if/when required.
- Participates in the clinic employee selection process, work assignments, performance evaluations and staff development, as needed.
- Conducts annual quality assessments for each clinic, makes improvement recommendations and communicates/educates as required.
- Hands-on support in the setup and opening of new clinics, including but not limited to, clinical supplies and equipment, scheduling, patient flow, charting (EMR), miscellaneous education, patient care standards, etc.
- Partner with the HR & Training department on new hire onboarding and training to provide educational assistance as needed.
- Responsible, directly or indirectly, for clinical and EMR training for new clinic staff.
- Partner with HR and Training departments to identify training needs for new and existing staff. Create training courses and educational aids to support training needs.
- Responsible for staying up to date on the standards of care related to wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (local coverage determinations / LCDs) and education of such.
- Partner closely with the Revenue Cycle Department on insurance verifications to get authorization in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintain peer-to-peer relationship with medical directors and provide support across all centers.
- Review the clinical competency assessment form annually. Ensure clinic staff completes annual competencies and is performing under their scope of services.
- Initiates and participates in problem-solving, policy-forming conferences for Nursing/Patient Care Services.
- Maintains close coordination with all department to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.
- Support Program Director and clinical managers as they maintain harmonious and effective relationships with the education system, volunteer groups, agencies, and the community.
- Maintains efficient and effective departmental operations while verifying compliance with all local, state and federal regulations, standards and protocols.
- Responsible for participating in the onboarding and training of new team members.
- Ensures compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) by safeguarding patient information and maintaining the highest level of confidentiality standards.
- Consistently adheres to company, hospital, and accrediting body clinical, safety, and compliance standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements for This Role
- Registered Nurse graduated from an accredited school or college of nursing.
- Current state licensure.
- CWS, WCC or WOCN required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from approved agency.
- 5+ years management experience required.
- 5+ years wound care and/or HBO experience required.
- 2+ years clinical training experience required.
- 2+ years of experience in charting, billing and insurance authorizations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office or related systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to treat others with compassion and patience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- All employees are required to comply with HIPAA policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications for This Role
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN) preferred. Or, obtain certification within 3 years.
- Experience in outpatient clinic and/or hospital operations preferred.
Travel
This position requires frequent ground and/or air travel. This may result in travel up to 75% of the employee’s time with occasional weekend travel.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by a Director of Nursing to successfully perform the essential competencies, duties, and requirements of this position.
These include standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 50 pounds and sitting for extended periods of time and looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time. In addition, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting and shifting heavy objects, as well as air travel, may be required. Employees should ask for assistance if needed.
