Anesthesiologist

Akicita Federal is recruiting board-certified or board-eligible anesthesiologists to provide on-site anesthesia services to Veterans at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, 113 Holland Avenue, Albany, NY.

This is a direct patient care role, with about 99.5% of time spent in clinical care across a broad surgical and procedural caseload. Selected physicians will be credentialed and privileged at the VA and scheduled as part of a multi-provider team supporting coverage seven days a week.

Schedule and Call

• On site Monday through Friday, 0700–1730. The OR schedule runs 0700–1700 or longer, plus emergencies.
• Home call on weeknights (1700–0700), weekends (Saturday 0700 to Monday 0700), and federal holidays (0700 to 0700 the following day). Call is shared across the provider team.
• On-call physicians must answer phone consults within 15 minutes and be on site within 60 minutes when called in. Candidates must live within a reasonable commute of the facility.
• Call-back cases are paid at the call rate.

Key Responsibilities

• Confirm the next day's case assignments the afternoon before, using the communication method set by the Chief of Surgery.
• Evaluate each patient on the morning of the procedure and enter the Immediate Anesthesia Note in CPRS.
• Provide anesthesia for all assigned surgical specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics and joint replacement, hand, podiatry, ENT, dental, gynecology, ophthalmology, urology, thoracic, vascular, neurosurgical, plastic, and cardiac cases.
• Provide anesthesia care for electroconvulsive therapy and for procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab, electrophysiology, GI, and radiology suites.
• Provide coverage as needed for the surgical ICU, short stay unit, acute pain management service, diagnostic transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and emergency airway management.
• Provide bedside consultation for admitted patients and respond to e-consults for outpatients.
• Document intraoperative care in the electronic Anesthesia Record Keeper (ARK) and complete the OR record and postoperative note in CPRS.
• Be in the operating room at the scheduled start time for every case.
• When cases finish before 3:30 PM, check with the in-charge staff or service chief for more assignments. When cases run past 3:30 PM, finish the case and move to home call.
• Follow all VA medication policies. Sample medications may not be given to patients.
• Complete all required VA TMS training on time.

Required Qualifications

• MD or DO with a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or DC.
• No history of any license that was restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered (including pending action), or denied on application.
• Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).
• Current BLS and ACLS certification by AHA.
• Ability to complete VA credentialing, privileging, and background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in VA or other federal healthcare settings.
• Experience with CPRS and electronic anesthesia records.
• Cardiac anesthesia and perioperative TEE experience.
• Regional anesthesia and acute pain management experience.
