Chief Nursing Officer

The Center for Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine, LLC (CFWH) provides management and consulting services to healthcare providers in the area of wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Job Overview

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for directing patient care services to include assisting clinic leadership with clinical staff management, case management, extensive chart reviews, utilization of services reviews, and discharge planning.

Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all wound care and hyperbaric patients.

Maintains performance improvement activities companywide and initiates clinical education strategies, including but not limited to, creating content and administering training for new and existing staff. Position will directly oversee Nursing Administrators and Clinical Auditors.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Understands wound care and hyperbaric nursing protocols; ability to practice as required.
  • Manages the Clinical Authorization (CA) department/staff, including performance reviews, time-off, coaching, quarterly 1-1s and goal setting.
  • Oversees and participates in the chart review process to ensure patients qualify for treatment prior to appointment.
  • Works closely with CA team to ensure the chart review process is consistent and corrections are communicated to others professionally and in a helpful, kind manner.
  • Participates in the clinic employee selection process, work assignments, performance evaluations and staff development, as needed.
  • Partners with the HR & Training department on new hire training to provide educational assistance as needed. Requested clinical training from CA may be remote or in-person.
  • Works with the CA team to identify training needs for current staff. Creates appropriate training material/courses and educational aids. Provides training remotely or in-person.
  • Travels to wound centers across the U.S. to support on-going clinical education, coach and develop nursing staff, and to cover clinical shifts if/when required.
  • Participates in new-business clinic assessments to evaluate policies and procedures as they relate to nursing standards, chart reviews, insurance approval processes, patient demographics, etc.
  • Hands-on, on-site support in the setup and opening of new clinics, including but not limited to, clinical supplies and equipment, scheduling, patient flow, charting standards, EMR training, miscellaneous clinical education and patient care standards.
  • Works closely with clinic leadership to advise on patient scheduling, chart reviews, physician communication, and patient evaluations for HBO qualification.
  • Responsible for staying up to date on the standards of care related to wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (local coverage determinations/LCDs) and education of such.
  • Partners closely with the Revenue Cycle Department on insurance verifications to get authorization in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintains peer-to-peer relationship with clinic medical directors and corporate medical director to provide clinical support across all centers in a consistent manner.
  • Reviews the Clinical Competency Assessment Form annually. Ensures clinic staff completes annual competencies and is performing under their scope of services.
  • Creates and/or updates clinical procedures for new and existing staff to adhere to. Communicates and trains on procedures as required.
  • Maintains close coordination with all departments to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.
  • Works closely with executive leadership team on strategic goal setting and execution.
  • Ensures compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) by safeguarding patient information and maintaining the highest level of confidentiality standards.
  • Maintains efficient and effective clinical operations while verifying compliance with all local, state and federal regulations, standards and protocols.
  • Consistently adheres to company, hospital, and accrediting body clinical, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements for This Role

  • Registered Nurse (RN) from an accredited school or college of nursing.
  • Current state licensure; no restrictions to obtain RN license in additional states.
  • CWS, WCC or WOCN required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from an approved agency.
  • 5+ years management experience required.
  • 5+ years wound care and/or HBO experience required.
  • 5+ years clinical training experience required, including creating training materials.
  • 5+ years of experience in charting, billing and insurance authorizations.
  • Proficient in a minimum of one EMR system.
  • Experience writing and implementing clinical procedures.
  • Knowledge of best practice, scope, regulations, standards and protocols for nursing and other clinical positions in multiple states.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to treat others with compassion and patience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • All employees are required to comply with HIPAA policies and procedures.

Desired Qualifications for This Role

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN) preferred.
  • Experience in outpatient clinic and/or hospital operations, preferred.
  • Experience opening a new clinical facility, preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, particularly SharePoint preferred.

Travel

This position requires frequent ground and/or air travel. This may result in travel up to 75% of the employee’s time with occasional weekend travel.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by a Chief Nursing Officer to successfully perform the essential competencies, duties, and requirements of this position.

These include standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 50 pounds and sitting for extended periods of time and looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time. In addition, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting and shifting heavy objects, as well as air travel, may be required. Employees should ask for assistance if needed.

Employment with The Center for Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine, LLC or NexGen Hyperbaric, LLC is contingent upon attesting to health clearance requirements, which include, but may not be limited to: evidence of vaccination for/immunity to Hepatitis B, Influenza (Flu), MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) Varicella (Chickenpox), Tdap (Tetanus and Diphtheria), Tuberculosis (TB) testing. Additional vaccinations, proof of immunity, or documentation may be required.
