The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for the practice of nursing at University Hospital, the Ross Heart Hospital, and Dodd Hall Rehabilitation Hospital, by ensuring consistency in the standard of nursing practice across the clinical settings.
As a member of the hospitals’ senior leadership team, CNO supports and facilitates an interdisciplinary team approach to the overall delivery of care to patients, families and the community. The CNO leads quality, safety and innovation initiatives in partnership with the Hospital Executive Directors.
The Chief Nursing Officer ensures the vision, strategic direction, and the advancement of the profession of Nursing under the direction of the Executive Director, University and Ross Heart Hospitals and the Wexner Medical Center Chief Nursing Executive.
The Chief Nursing Officer ensures the continued advancement of the nursing profession throughout the hospitals. This position is responsible for driving the nursing strategic plan in collaboration with health system executive directors to deliver excellent patient care.
The role will include responsibility for performance improvement, program management, business operations, budgets, resource utilization, financial stewardship and maintenance of the professional contract with the Ohio State University Nursing Organization (OSUNO).
The CNO will lead the overall operations in nursing which includes oversight, support and advocacy for nursing quality, patient safety, nurse engagement, physician collaboration and service excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Doctorate or advanced degree in health-related field required. Current Ohio RN license required. of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or master’s degree in nursing required, Master’s is required.
Minimum ten (10) years of administrative responsibility within a complex academic health care organization and with progressive experience in nursing leadership roles. Professional certification in Nursing Administration or clinical practice is desired with an expectation of attainment within 18 months of hire.
On going: Maintain current Ohio license. Meet mandatory educational and health requirements. Demonstrate competence in essential job functions. Maintain and seek knowledge related to evidence-based practice, patient care issues, quality improvement, financial management, current policies, procedures, and protocols.
