Practice

Ham Lake Veterinary Hospital practices Preventive Medicine, General Medicine, and General Surgery. We have digital radiography, a full in-house lab, and reference laboratory availability for sending out more involved testing. We love serving the Ham Lake/East Bethel area and find our country setting quiet and relaxing.

Our hospital began in 2005 and since then has grown to employ an over 20 person team of veterinarians, technicians, and receptionists.

Ham Lake Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced, collaborative Managing Veterinarian to lead our dedicated team in Ham Lake, Minnesota.

About the Managing Veterinarian Role

As Managing Veterinarian, you will serve as the clinical leader of the hospital while continuing to practice medicine alongside the team. You will partner closely with practice leadership and Heartland Veterinary Partners to support medical quality, veterinarian development, team engagement, and the overall success of the hospital.

This position is a strong fit for an experienced veterinarian who wants greater influence within a practice while remaining actively involved in patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality medical, surgical, dental, and preventive care
  • Serve as a clinical leader and trusted resource for the veterinary team
  • Mentor and support associate veterinarians in their clinical and professional development
  • Promote collaboration and strong communication among doctors, support staff, and practice leadership
  • Support consistent medical standards and high-quality patient care
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable hospital culture
  • Partner with practice leadership on hospital goals, workflow, staffing, and operational opportunities
  • Support veterinarian engagement, development, and retention
  • Encourage continuing education and advancement of clinical skills
  • Help identify opportunities to strengthen services and support the continued growth of the practice

What We're Looking For

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree
  • Active Minnesota veterinary license or ability to obtain one
  • Experience practicing small animal medicine
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
  • Collaborative and approachable leadership style
  • Interest in mentoring and developing fellow veterinarians
  • Commitment to high-quality medicine and an exceptional client experience

Surgical and Dental Experience Is Valued

Previous medical leadership experience is preferred, but experienced veterinarians who are ready to take the next step into leadership are encouraged to apply

Essential Responsibilities

  • Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
  • Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
  • Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
  • Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
  • Maintain patients’ medical records.
  • Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • DVM/VMD degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
  • Appropriate state licensure.
  • Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.

Pay Range

USD $115,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree and possess an active Minnesota veterinary license. Previous medical leadership experience is preferred, along with strong clinical judgment and a collaborative approach to team management.
