Clinical Veterinarian

The Office of Animal Resources invites applications for a Clinical Veterinarian to join a collaborative team at the University of Iowa. The successful candidate will provide clinical veterinary care for research animals and play a key role in advancing animal care, husbandry, and compliance programs that support innovative biomedical research.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30 pm and participates in rotating on call schedule that includes after hours/overnights, holiday, weekend on call.

Work Modality: On Campus. This position is performed fully on campus.

About Pay and Compensation

Pay Grade: 7A

The hiring range for this position is anticipated to be $120,000-$160,000. Salary offers are based on a variety of factors, including education, experience, skills, and budget considerations. In limited circumstances, compensation outside of the anticipated range may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications.

Qualifications

Education or Equivalency Required

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (i. e. Veterinary Medical Doctor/VMD).

Required Licensure

· Active veterinary licensure in at least one state is required.

Required Qualifications

· Effective communication skills to develop and maintain relationships and to influence compliance with policies and regulations.

· Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.

· Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and various database systems.

· Possession of a valid state or commercial driver's license, and the ability to meet University Fleet Safety Standards.

Highly Desirable Qualifications

· Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM), Diplomate of the European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ECLAM) or other laboratory animal medicine board certifications recognized by the International Association of Colleges of Laboratory Animal Medicine (IACLAM).

Desirable Qualifications

· Current experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine through a formal residency program or experience route; typically, two (2) years (if formal residency completed).

· Familiarity with current USDA and PHS regulations, and the AAALAC International accreditation process.

· Experience with a wide variety of laboratory animal species and their housing from conventional to barrier to biocontainment facilities.

· Knowledge of university policies, procedures, and regulations.

· Experience with animal surgical suite management including USDA and non-regulated animals.
