Job Description

Under the leadership of the department director and Clinical Nutrition Manager, their assigned Supervisor, the Clinical Dietitian is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy (nutrition assessment, nutrition support, patient intervention and education) to meet the nutrition care needs of inpatients.

The Clinical Dietitian is an active member of the health care team, and participates in multi-disciplinary rounds (Nutrition Support, Dysphagia, Oncology, etc.) The Clinical Dietitian must be able to interact empathetically and compassionately with a variety of patients with chronic, acute and critical care medical needs.

The dietitian works with the Nutrition Technician and Diet Clerks to coordinate accuracy of diet order and patient menus.

Experience

Required:

Fluency, the ability to communicate orally, and the ability to read and write in English. Intermediate computer skills. The ability to project a positive, warm, friendly and healing attitude to the patients of Community Hospital. Excellent customer service. Advanced knowledge of diet therapy and using the Nutrition Care Process format of documentation. Experience documenting in an Electronic Health Record and Nutrition-related programs (CBORD, Computrition, etc).

Preferred

Two years experience as a clinical dietitian working with patient education and nutrition support. Bilingual communication skills.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education or experience in related field required.

Licensure/Certification

Registered or Registration-eligible with the Commission of Dietetic Registration. Registration-eligible applicants must successfully complete the RD exam within six (6) months of employment. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification is required

Assigned Work Hours

Per diem, varied days and shifts as needed, no set guaranteed hours in a two week pay period. This is not a full or part time position.

  • The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.
  • Hourly Evening Shift Differential: $3.25
  • Hourly Night Shift Differential: $4.87

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Dietitian provides medical nutrition therapy, including assessment, support, and patient education for inpatients. They also collaborate with the healthcare team during multi-disciplinary rounds and coordinate diet orders with support staff.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree and be registered or registration-eligible with the Commission of Dietetic Registration. Additionally, a BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.
