Job Description
1. Acts as a liaison or advocate for patients carrying a genetic trait or have an inherited disease
2. Is an resource for physicians in identifying genetic structures to reach a definitive diagnosis
3. Initiates consultations to provide information and support to families in which a member is diagnosed with a genetic mutation or is at risk or prone to certain inherited diseases
4. Identifies families at risk in the community investigating the problem, analyzes the inheritance pattern and probability of occurrence or recurrence, then interpreting the information gathered to the families concerning the mutation and discuss and order any further testing or treatment available
5. Reports to Medical Director of High-Risk Genetic Testing Program and Breast Services and collaborates daily with her on scope of practice
6. Nurse Practitioner is to see patients at the Cuda Women’s Health Center or other areas of the CCHC organization where such patients may be seen
7. Nurse Practitioner is to keep the physicians informed of all patients being seen so appropriate physician review and involvement can be insured
- 8. To participate in patient, follow up program as assigned or requested
- 9. Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively and cooperatively with all physicians, nurses and ancillary staff members of the Center
- 10. Assures that the patient’s rights as identified by the institution are met
- 11. Communicates all data relevant to patient and/or family needs to the health care team
- 12. Coordinates patient care with other health team members by documentation and communicating data for patients with common well-defined diagnosis/patient problem to provide continuity of care
- 13. May help conduct research related to genetic conditions or genetic counseling
- 14. Contributes to the Women’s Health program through participation in community activities
15. The supervising physician will review all the written notes from the consultation of the NP with recommendations for diagnostic imaging and procedures
Insurance: The advanced practice staff shall, at all times, carry professional malpractice liability insurance with average of at least $1,000,000 per claim.
Consultation: If, at any time during the course of a client’s evaluation or treatment, the advanced practice identifies the patient’s care to be beyond the scope of the Nurse Practitioner’s expertise, consultation will occur with the supervising physician.

- Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
- MA-RN License
- MA licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
- Master degree in Nursing
- Mass Controlled Substances Registration
- Certification in Genetic Testing from a nationally recognized accredited program within one (1) year of hire
- Advanced practice Nurse Practitioner certification in Women’s Health
- Recommend CEU’S to meet certification requirement
- BLS current certification required
- Recommend ACLS current certification
- At least six (6) months practice as a Nurse Practitioner
Key Responsibilities
The Nurse Practitioner acts as a liaison for patients with genetic traits, providing support, identifying risks, and coordinating care with the medical team. Requirements
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Nursing, a valid MA-RN license, and MA licensure as a Nurse Practitioner. Additionally, they require at least six months of practice experience and must obtain certification in Genetic Testing within one year of hire.
