Job Description

Coverage and Trauma Level Overview

Level I Trauma

In-House Coverage

7 AM - 7 PM (includes rounding); 7 PM - 7 AM coverage provided.

Support

Additional pulmonology physicians onsite with locum tenens.

Level II Trauma

In-House Coverage

7 AM - 7 PM (including rounding).

On-Call Coverage

Offsite pager call from 7 PM - 7 AM.

Support

Other pulmonology providers will be onsite with locum tenens.

Level III Trauma

In-House Coverage

7 AM - 7 PM (includes rounding).

On-Call Coverage

Offsite pager call from 7 PM - 7 AM.

Support

No additional onsite pulmonology physicians with locum tenens.

Additional Coverage Details

  • Each locum is assigned only one location per 12-hour shift.
  • Coverage is limited to a maximum of 7 consecutive days, with shifts rotating locations to ensure lighter workloads between shifts.
  • Total coverage requirement is 30 shifts per month across all locum providers.

Setting

Inpatient care across Level I, II, and III Trauma units.

Required Procedures and Responsibilities

Clinical Focus

Inpatient pulmonology is preferred; critical care intensivist is required for ICU engagement.

Pulmonary Procedures

Proficient in ventilation management, ETT/NT/tracheostomy, non-invasive ventilation (BiPAP/CPAP), bronchoscopy (diagnostic and with bronchial alveolar lavage), chest tube insertion, central line placement, arterial line placement, thoracentesis, and foreign body extraction.

Critical Care Practice Settings

Medical

Management of cardiac and respiratory arrest/failure, sepsis, metabolic disorders, renal failure, and overdose scenarios.

Surgical

Involvement in pre- and post-operative management for general, vascular, orthopedic, neuro, and cardiovascular/thoracic patients.

Preferred Critical Care Procedures

Insertion of PA catheters, dialysis catheter placements, diagnostic and therapeutic taps, lumbar punctures, and paracentesis.

EMR Training Requirements

  • Mandatory EMR training must be completed before the first shift; no exemptions for testing out.
  • Training slots are available only on Tuesdays or Fridays at 8 AM MT.
  • Training hours will not be billable until the provider commences service at the facility.

Travel Logistics

Flight Reimbursement

Economy/standard flights only, reimbursed with receipt.

Lodging

Reimbursed at $150 per night pre-tax and fees.

Car Rentals

Up to an economy vehicle cap, reimbursed with receipt.

Mileage

Compensated at the IRS standard rate.

Travel Preferences

  • Preferred lodging capped at $150 per night (before taxes and fees).
  • Local/drive-in candidates are highly preferred to reduce travel needs.

Credentialing Information

Timeframe

90-120 days for processing.

Credentialing at Other Facilities

Yes, including Poudre Valley Hospital (PVH) and Greeley Hospital (GH).

Requirements

IMLC candidates must submit their Colorado license application upon acceptance to prevent credentialing delays.

Shift Descriptions

  • In-house coverage (7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM);
  • PVH: In-house (7 AM - 7 PM) plus night call (7 PM - 7 AM);
  • GH: In-house (7 AM - 7 PM) plus night call (7 PM - 7 AM).

Candidate Requirements

  • Board Certified in Pulmonology & Critical Care (mandatory).
  • Active Colorado License or IMLC (with Letter of Qualification in hand for name clearance).
  • Active ACLS, BLS, and DEA credentials (highly preferred).
  • Candidates must specify their availability between January 2027 and April 2027 during the presentation.
  • Must declare the number of shifts per month they can provide.
  • Acknowledgment of EMR training requirements is essential to avoid delay in the start date.
  • Recent (within the last 24 months) Level I Trauma experience is required.
  • Local/drive-in candidates preferred.
  • Must demonstrate competency in all required procedures at the time of name clearance.
  • Clean malpractice and background check required.
  • Submission of self-query NPDB (to be pulled within the month) at the time of presentation is mandatory

Certifications Required

  • ACLS, BLS, NRP, Board Certification,

DEA.

Licensing Requirements

  • Active license in Colorado.

Key Responsibilities

Provide inpatient pulmonology and critical care coverage across Level I, II, and III trauma units. Perform essential procedures including ventilation management, bronchoscopy, and various line placements while managing complex medical and surgical patients.

Requirements

Candidates must be Board Certified in Pulmonology and Critical Care with an active Colorado license or IMLC. Recent Level I Trauma experience within the last 24 months is mandatory, along with proficiency in all required clinical procedures.
