Job Details: Job Location: Marietta Memorial Hospital Campus - Marietta, OH, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: Undisclosed, Job Shift: 8-Hour Day Shift, Job Category: Professional, In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Women’s Health Patient Navigator coordinates non-clinical patient support and clinic workflows across the OBGYN service line.
Based primarily in the clinic, this role helps patients navigate appointments, referrals, resources, and follow-up from prenatal care through postpartum and gynecologic services.
The Navigator maintains accurate tracking and documentation, identifies barriers to timely care, and works with clinical staff and the Quality department to support approved women’s health measures and improvement efforts.
The role does not provide clinical assessment, advice, or treatment. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and maintains strict confidentiality at all times.
Job Functions: Coordinates non-clinical navigation across OBGYN clinic locations, serving as a consistent point of contact for patients and supporting timely appointments, referrals, records, and follow-up under established clinic workflows.
Tracks Ohio Perinatal Risk Assessment Form (PRAF) workflows for applicable patients; prompts the responsible obstetrical provider or clinical team to complete the assessment, monitors submission status, and resolves administrative gaps without performing clinical assessment.
In collaboration with the Quality department and clinical team, monitors assigned maternal and preventive care follow-up lists, including postpartum visits, breast and cervical screening, immunization documentation, and social needs screening; routes clinical questions and care decisions to licensed staff.
Maintains accurate patient registries, work queues, and tracking tools for prenatal and postpartum follow-up, preventive screenings, referrals, surgical documentation, and approved care coordination activities in accordance with privacy and recordkeeping requirements.
Contacts patients using approved scripts to help arrange visits and connect them with available transportation, financial, community, maternal health, and other support resources in Ohio and West Virginia; documents outreach and escalates urgent or clinical concerns to the appropriate team.
Works with providers, nurses, medical assistants, scheduling staff, and operational leadership to close administrative handoff gaps during prenatal, gynecologic, surgical, and postpartum care, including transitions to pediatric or community services when applicable.
Tracks the presence and timing of required sterilization and hysterectomy consent documents and other preoperative paperwork; flags missing or incomplete items for review by authorized clinical or revenue cycle staff before scheduling or submission deadlines.
Supports operational coordination for women’s health programs and partnerships, including Memorial Health System’s work with Akron Children’s Hospital and planning for the future Women & Children’s Hospital, as assigned by clinic leadership.
Coordinates administrative steps for placenta donation referrals with clinic staff, including tracking eligibility and consent documentation completed by authorized staff and communicating scheduled cesarean delivery dates to LOOP through the approved process.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, public health, business administration, health sciences, communications, or a related field required.
Minimum of three (3) years of healthcare experience required, preferably in ambulatory operations, patient navigation, referral coordination, scheduling, documentation tracking, or community resource coordination. Experience in OBGYN, maternal health, preventive services, or quality improvement preferred.
Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple clinic locations with accuracy and discretion required. Clinical licensure is not required. Special Knowledge, Skills, Training: Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, verbal, and problem-solving skills required.
Ability to communicate sensitively with patients and families, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and recognize when to escalate clinical or safety concerns required. Proficiency with electronic health records, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and work queues required.
Familiarity with Ohio and West Virginia maternal health resources, patient privacy, preventive care tracking, and clinic documentation workflows preferred. Must follow approved scripts and role boundaries; no independent clinical triage, interpretation of results, or medical advice is permitted.
