You are comfortable working directly with patients, following established clinical and research protocols, maintaining confidentiality, documenting accurately, and collaborating with clinical and research teams.

What You’ll Do

The Part-Time OUD Behavioral Health Technician supports the clinical and research teams in providing a safe, organized, and patient-centered environment for participants enrolled in opioid use disorder clinical research. This role provides onsite support approximately two days per week during normal business hours and assists with participant engagement, visit preparation, clinical workflow, documentation, safety monitoring, and study-related activities within the scope of training and assigned responsibilities.

Clinical Environment Support: Maintain a safe, respectful, organized, and welcoming environment for patients and research participants receiving care or participating in OUD clinical research.

Clinical and Research Team Support: Work closely with Coordinators, Investigators, clinical staff, and other members of the research team to support participant visits, study workflows, and day-to-day site operations.

Communication and Participant Engagement: Establish professional and supportive relationships with participants while communicating clearly, respectfully, and without judgment. Escalate participant questions, concerns, behavioral changes, or safety issues to the appropriate clinical or research team member.

Documentation and Data Support: Complete assigned documentation accurately and in a timely manner while maintaining participant confidentiality and following organizational, clinical, and study-specific documentation requirements.

Participant Visit Preparation: Assist the clinical research team with preparing rooms, supplies, forms, equipment, and other materials needed for scheduled participant visits.

Patient Safety and Observation: Remain attentive to participant behavior, presentation, and overall safety during assigned activities. Immediately communicate concerns, changes in condition, or potential safety issues to the appropriate licensed clinical or research staff.

Protocol and Policy Compliance: Follow applicable organizational policies, clinical procedures, study protocols, training requirements, confidentiality standards, and instructions provided by the research and clinical leadership teams.

Study Readiness Support: Assist the research team in preparing for participant enrollment and study visits, including maintaining organized supplies, supporting site workflows, and completing assigned readiness activities leading up to and following study activation.

Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team and contribute to a coordinated participant experience across behavioral health, clinical, and research operations.

Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by clinical, research, or operational leadership.

What You’ll Bring

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in behavioral health, psychology, social work, human services, healthcare, or a related field preferred.

Previous experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, mental health, healthcare, clinical research, or a related patient-facing environment preferred.

Experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders or opioid use disorder strongly preferred.

Behavioral Health Technician, Mental Health Technician, Certified Behavioral Health Technician, Peer Support, Medical Assistant, or related experience is a plus.

Ability to maintain professional boundaries and interact respectfully with individuals experiencing behavioral health or substance use concerns.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong observation, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive patient and research information.
  • Ability to follow detailed clinical and research protocols and escalate concerns appropriately.

Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, research coordinators, nurses, behavioral health professionals, and other members of a multidisciplinary team.

Reliable transportation and ability to report onsite approximately two days per week during normal business hours.

Availability to complete required organizational and study-specific training before supporting participant visits.

Ability to remain professional, calm, and compassionate in situations involving challenging behaviors or emotionally complex patient interactions.

Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
