The Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM) is seeking a BC/BE pediatric neurosurgeon for a faculty position to be located at Children’s Hospital Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus, in Aurora Colorado, just east of Denver.

The candidate must be thoroughly trained and experienced in pediatric neurosurgery. Preferred qualifications include fellowship training and experience in pediatric neurosurgery, specifically interest in craniofacial disorders, fetal neurosurgery, and spasticity.

The successful candidate’s primary role will be on the Anschutz Medical Campus, although there may be some opportunity to work at Network of Care sites in the Denver Metro area or occasionally at Children’s Hospital Colorado - Colorado Springs. The candidate will be fully incorporated into the division of pediatric neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Children’s Hospital Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus is an academic 450 bed Pediatric Level 1 trauma center, associated with the University of Colorado Department of Neurosurgery and its residency program.

Primary responsibilities at the University of Colorado Anschutz will include both inpatient and outpatient clinical evaluation and management of patients with pediatric neurosurgical disease, and performance of neurosurgery procedures. There will be on-call responsibility at the Anschutz Campus in a roughly 1:5 cadence.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, education and teaching of medical students, pediatric neurosurgery fellows, and others will be an important responsibility. The successful candidate will have excellent teaching and education skills, and excellent communication and team skills.

The candidate will have completed fellowship in good standing in Pediatric Neurosurgery at an ABPNS-approved fellowship program (or equivalent), MD (or equivalent) degree and be American Board of Neurological Surgery Certified/Eligible.

The candidate will join 4 other MD providers, 8 Advanced Practice Providers and 2 RNs at the Anschutz Medical Campus, as well as 2 other MD providers, 2 Advanced Practice Providers and 1 RN at our Colorado Springs location.

The successful candidate will join an expanding group of collaborative, dedicated pediatric neurosurgeons at one of the top 10 Children’s Hospitals in the United States. Key Responsibilities

Patient care in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Anschutz Medical Campus with 1:5 rotating call schedule.

Elective and Urgent neurosurgical procedures.

Outpatient clinic in general pediatric neurosurgery with sub specialization based on the skills and interests of the successful candidate and needs of the practice.

Education and teaching of neurosurgery residents, pediatric neurosurgery fellows, students, advanced practice providers and others.

• Attend daily clinical rounds (7:00 am) and relevant conferences in person or via digital platforms.
• Academic contributions to improve the medical care of children

Work Location: Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Professor

• Active State of Colorado medical license and DEA license must be obtained on or before hire date

Board Certified/eligible in Neurosurgery

10+ years of experience as a medically trained professional in Neurosurgery – Pediatric Neurosurgery

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an academic setting, primarily in Pediatric Neurosurgery
• Area of unique neurosurgery research focus/expertise

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Advanced to expert knowledge of pediatric neurological disorders (e. g. congenital malformations, spasticity, hydrocephalus, epilepsy, brain tumors, and traumatic CNS injuries).
• Ability to evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for pediatric patients with acute and chronic neurological conditions.
• Strong understanding of neuroimaging modalities including MRI, CT, angiography, and intraoperative navigation systems.
• Advanced – expert skill in performing complex neurosurgical procedures utilizing microsurgical, endoscopic, and minimally invasive techniques.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary providers/teams.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex diagnoses, treatment options, and surgical risks to patients' families and caregivers.
• Ability to interpret and incorporate patient safety standards, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based clinical practices.
• Ability to participate in clinical research, medical education courses/training including residents & fellows, and other academic requirements.
• Experience using electronic health records (EHRs) and maintaining accurate and time sensitive clinical documentation.
• Ability to learn and adapt to the changing environment of healthcare and technological advances in healthcare.
• Ability to develop an international reputation in research (clinical or basic), clinical program development and organized pediatric neurosurgery
