Job Description
The OB/GYN Technologist-Senior performs advanced diagnostic obstetric and gynecologic sonographic examinations and serves as a senior clinical resource within the ultrasound team. Applies advanced technical knowledge and independent judgment to complex examinations, supports quality and workflow improvements, and provides guidance, training, and mentoring to less-experienced technologists.

Radiologic Technology or completed a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program AND Associate's Degree
Experience and Licenses
Five (5) years of diagnostic ultrasound experience is required
- RDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
- RDMS OBGYN Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Obstetrics and Gyn
- Performs advanced diagnostic obstetric and gynecologic sonographic examinations in accordance with established protocols, standards, and physician orders.
- Operates ultrasound equipment using advanced imaging techniques, settings, measurements, and optimization methods to obtain diagnostic-quality studies.
- Reviews imaging orders, clinical history, prior studies, and other available information to determine examination requirements.
- Locates, evaluates, measures, and records pertinent anatomical, pathological, and functional information identified during examinations.
- Performs technically challenging examinations and adapts imaging approaches within established protocols based on patient condition, anatomy, clinical indication, or technical limitations.
- Evaluates acquired images and examination data for technical quality, completeness, and consistency with departmental standards.
- Recognizes significant technical or clinical concerns and communicates pertinent information promptly to the appropriate physician or clinical team member.
- Serves as a clinical and technical resource for ultrasound technologists, physicians, and other members of the care team.
- Trains, mentors, and provides technical guidance to new and less-experienced ultrasound technologists.
- Supports orientation, competency development, continuing education, and adoption of established sonography practices.
- Identifies opportunities to improve imaging quality, patient flow, examination protocols, and department workflows and participates in related improvement activities.
- Supports consistent application of departmental protocols, patient safety practices, infection prevention requirements, documentation standards, and equipment procedures.
- Assists with evaluation of equipment functionality, imaging practices, supplies, and operational needs and communicates concerns to department leadership.
- Collaborates with physicians and clinical staff regarding complex examinations, patient care needs, and imaging requirements.
- Maintains current knowledge of developments in ultrasound technology, OB/GYN imaging practices, and applicable professional standards.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of ultrasound physics, instrumentation, imaging techniques, anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Advanced knowledge of obstetric and gynecologic sonography practices, examination protocols, image-quality standards, and patient safety requirements.
- Ability to independently perform and troubleshoot complex or technically challenging examinations.
- Ability to exercise advanced clinical judgment, recognize unusual findings or technical concerns, and determine appropriate action within established protocols.
- Ability to evaluate image quality and examination completeness and provide technical guidance to other sonographers.
- Ability to serve as a clinical resource, trainer, and mentor to less-experienced technologists and new team members.
- Ability to identify workflow, quality, equipment, or practice concerns and contribute to process and quality improvement activities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with physicians, technologists, nursing staff, and other clinical professionals.

Benefits Overview
UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees.
Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.
Medical - UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Family members can be added to the plan through payroll deduction.

Dental - Three dental insurance plan options are available for employees and their families through Delta Dental Insurance Company, two PPOs and one dental HMO plan. Both PPO plans allow employees to choose any licensed dentist.
Vision - Fully insured Vision Care benefits are offered by Superior Vision Services. Two vision plan options that offer either standard or enhanced vision benefits.
Disability - Employees can enroll in the Disability Insurance which provides income if a non-work related illness or injury prevents you from working.
FSAs - Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.
Retirement - Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
- Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
- Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
- Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
- Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year.
