Job Description

Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute is looking to hire a Physician Assistant to join Dr. Freeman's team at the San Marco office.

The position is full-time with benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, and 401K retirement plan.

Location: 1325 San Marco Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207

Schedule: Monday- Friday, Exempt

The Physician Assistant provides direct support to the physician with patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of assigned Physician(s), provide initial and ongoing assessment of patient’s medical, physical and psychosocial status, including: conduct history and physical; develop treatment plan, provide education, perform rounds; record progress notes; order tests, examinations, and non-pharmaceutical therapies; write discharge summary.
  • Apply/Remove orthopedic splints or casts for closed fractures and severe sprains.
  • Suture lacerations and provide wound care.
  • Wound care debridement.
  • Prescribe outpatient medications (In accordance with FL Admin Code 64B8-30.007-8).
  • Emergency Dept. – May manage illness of minimal severity with no serious threat to life.
  • Emergency Dept. – May perform initial evaluation of illness of moderate or major severity and manages in conjunction with supervising physician.
  • Local infiltrative anesthesia administration.
  • First/Second Surgical Assistant.
  • Pre- and Post-operative surgical care.
  • Assist physicians with group call, responding timely to pages at any time of day/night.
  • Maintain OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain a clean working environment and properly operating equipment.
  • Use accepted infection control techniques to provide appropriate patient care.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines, including wearing protective equipment when appropriate.
  • Provide exceptional service to all of our patients.
  • Treat everyone with respect, courtesy, and friendliness.
  • Exhibit professionalism and ethical behavior at all times.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures for our organization.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and business within the organization’s policies.
  • Communicate recommendations on improvements of policies and procedures to management team.
  • Participate in committees, discussions and other team functions.
  • Provide additional duties as may be assigned.

Position Requirements

Education: Degree with completion of a program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

Licensure: Successful completion of Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE). 100 hours of continuing medical education every 2 years. Successful completion of recertification examination every 6 years. Florida PA license. Basic Life Support.

Experience: Prefer one year minimum in an orthopaedic clinical setting.

Machines/Equipment: Computer proficient. EMR experience preferred.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills. Effective interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions

Fast paced orthopaedic medical office. Exposure to some communicable diseases, body fluids, and bio-hazardous materials. Requires flexible work schedule as work load varies from day to day and time of day.

Physical Demands

Standing

Stands frequently while working with patients. May stand in intervals up to 45 minutes or longer.

Sitting

Sits while working with patients, writing necessary documentation and attending required meetings. May sit for up to 30 minutes at a time or longer.

Walking

Walks to get patients to and from their rooms or other treatment areas. Necessary to get equipment/supplies used in patient care.

Pushing/Pulling

Pushes patients in wheelchairs and other equipment such as IV stands, oxygen tanks, and exercise equipment. May also be required to move or handle patients weighing up to 200 pounds or more in bed.

Squatting/Kneeling

Kneels/squats to remove leg rest, apply/remove braces, to unplug equipment, to move equipment necessary for studies.

Carrying

Occasional carries items weighing less than 10 lbs.

Vision

Necessary to read prescriptions, plans of care, progress notes and other documents. Requires corrected vision; ability to read normal print.

Hearing

Listens to patients and other staff members (in person and on the phone). Requires normal hearing range; phone conversations.

Speaking

Communicates effectively with patients and other staff members (in person and on the phone).

Key Responsibilities

The Physician Assistant provides direct support to the physician by conducting patient assessments, developing treatment plans, and performing clinical procedures such as suturing and orthopedic splinting. They also assist in surgical settings and manage patient care documentation in accordance with organizational policies.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a degree from an ARC-PA accredited program and possess a valid Florida PA license with PANCE certification. At least one year of experience in an orthopedic clinical setting is preferred.
