Job Description and Position Requirements

Penn State Harrisburg Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) invites applications for an on-site part-time mental health counselor position at our Middletown campus.

We seek talented applicants with specialized skills, training, or interests relevant to the collegiate mental health field such as multicultural counseling, trauma, disordered eating behaviors, acute anxiety and depression, addictive behaviors, identity intersectionality, students with disabilities, multilingual and international students, as well as BIPOC, LGTBQIA, APIDA, first generation, and veteran students.

Job Duties

Provide individual, couples, and group counseling to students seeking assistance for emotional and behavioral concerns.

Conduct intake assessments and review case management, virtual, campus, community, and auxiliary resources for students entering CAPS’ services.

Evaluate student concerns and assess for potential referral to a more appropriate service provider/level of care, and facilitate referral.

  • Assist with access/triage assessment.
  • Help coordinate urgent mental health crisis services.
  • Consult with campus community on issues of care and concern.
  • Assist with CAPS’ outreach programming.
  • Participate in professional development and training

Requirements and Qualifications

A master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related mental-health discipline from an accredited program.

  • Licensed or license-eligible in Pennsylvania for LPC, LCSW, LMFT or equivalent.
  • Provide cover letter, curriculum vitae or resume with application.

Employment with the University for this job will require successful completion of the Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and the FBI Criminal History Background Check.

Background Checks/Clearances

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
