The Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) provides timely, quality, and safe primary health care to patients in the Sidney Regional Medical Center (SRMC) Specialty Clinic. The PA-C provides diagnostic, treatment, and follow-up services within their scope of practice and collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care. The PA-C may also serve as a clinical resource to nursing staff and assist with inpatient care, employee health programs, and quality improvement initiatives as needed.

The PA-C practices under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations, professional licensure requirements, scope of practice, Medical Staff Bylaws, and SRMC policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary health care services to patients presenting to the SRMC Specialty Clinic, as assigned.
• Obtain and document patient health histories, perform physical examinations, and assess and diagnose patient conditions.
• Order and interpret appropriate laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic testing based on the patient's condition.
• Develop and implement treatment plans for conditions within the PA-C's scope of practice and clinical expertise, consulting with physicians when appropriate.
• Prescribe and administer medications within licensed prescriptive authority.
• Provide patient education, including written and verbal instructions regarding treatment, medications, follow-up care, and other health-related needs.
• Provide continuity of care and appropriate patient follow-up.
• Make referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers when clinically appropriate.
• Maintain effective communication and collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, clinic personnel, and other healthcare providers.
• Assist in the management and care of inpatients as needed.
• Initiate hospital admission in conjunction with a physician when appropriate.
• Participate in medical and nursing staff meetings as requested.
• Serve as a clinical resource and provide consultation to nursing staff regarding the care of complex patients.
• Complete and maintain accurate, timely, and thorough medical records, progress notes, and other required documentation.
• Complete appropriate diagnosis and procedure coding and provide required information for patient billing.
• Complete progress notes within 24 hours of the patient encounter and submit required billing information on the same day services are provided.
• Maintain clinical privileges at Sidney Regional Medical Center.
• Participate in SRMC's quality assurance and performance improvement activities and contribute to efforts that support organizational quality and patient care goals.
• Provide care in accordance with accepted professional standards, current ethical standards, applicable licensure and accreditation requirements, Medicare Conditions of Participation, Medical Staff Bylaws, and SRMC policies and procedures.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect confidential information regarding patients and hospital operations.
• Provide care to patients regardless of their ability to pay and without discrimination based on race, creed, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, or other protected status.
• Act as a patient advocate and represent SRMC professionally within the community.
• Assist with employee health programs and other organizational initiatives as assigned.
• Remain knowledgeable about and comply with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and requirements related to the practice of medicine and the responsibilities of a Physician Assistant.
• Promote ethical behavior and demonstrate a commitment to SRMC's mission, values, and standards of behavior.
• Use organizational resources responsibly and demonstrate sound judgment in financial and operational matters.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer, VP of Patient Care Services, or other designated leadership.

Requirements

• Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C).
• Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska, or eligibility for Nebraska licensure.
• Appropriate prescriptive authority and credentials required to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to practice within applicable state and federal laws, professional standards, scope of practice, and SRMC Medical Staff Bylaws.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, treatment, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
• Commitment to providing safe, quality, patient-centered care.
• Must maintain required clinical privileges and professional credentials.
