Job Description

Spex Expressions is an independently owned optometry practice in DeKalb, Illinois, led by a husband-and-wife team with more than 30 years of experience. The practice is hiring an Optometrist to join its growing team and help deliver exceptional, relationship-focused patient care. Building on a strong foundation, the owners are preparing for thoughtful expansion by implementing proven systems and processes that will support continued growth and long-term success.

Why Join Us?

Founded in 1993, Spex Expressions is a thriving, well-established practice with three doctors and 16 employees.

The practice’s mission is to provide personalized eye care with genuine compassion, using the latest technology to deliver exceptional care and build lasting patient relationships through education in a fun, welcoming environment.

Spex Expressions specializes in dry eye, scleral contact lenses, myopia management, macular degeneration, and glaucoma, and plans to expand to four doctors at one location.

Its brand-new, 6,500-square-foot office pairs premium materials with outstanding customer service, creating an exciting environment for a doctor who wants to grow with the practice.

What You’ll Do

As the newest Optometrist on the team, you will diagnose, treat, and manage ocular disease; prescribe corrective lenses; and use advanced technologies—including Neurolens, IPL, radiofrequency, Ortho-K, OCT, visual field testing, anterior segment imaging, Optos, amniotic membranes, and ERG—to provide personalized care and foster lasting patient relationships. This flexible part- or full-time opportunity typically involves one to four eight-hour shifts per week, occasional Saturdays, caring for 18 to 20 patients per day.

Who You Are

You are an outgoing, friendly Optometrist who enjoys spending meaningful time with patients and building strong relationships. You are eager to learn, adaptable, and enthusiastic about embracing new technologies and evolving approaches to care. Experience in low vision or binocular vision disorders is welcome but not required, as the practice already supports a broad range of other optometric specialties.

Why You’ll Love DeKalb

Located about 60 miles west of Chicago, DeKalb offers the welcoming feel of a close-knit community with convenient access to big-city attractions. Home to Northern Illinois University, the city features a lively mix of local restaurants, arts and entertainment, community events, and more than 40 parks and green spaces.

DeKalb’s rich history, diverse local businesses, and abundant recreational opportunities create a well-rounded lifestyle for individuals and families alike.

Whether exploring a neighborhood park, enjoying a cultural event, or discovering the area’s distinctive shops and dining, residents will find plenty of ways to feel connected and at home.
