UTHealth Houston's School of Dentistry is seeking a Dental Assistant I (registered) or Dental Assistant II (certified) to join their team of professionals in Orthodontic Dentistry. Knowledge of Orthodontic Dentistry procedures and nomenclature is preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish speaking) is a plus!

Position Summary
Perform routine tasks assisting the professional dental staff and residents in the examination and prophylactic, therapeutic and surgical treatment of patients. Works under direct supervision.
Position Key Accountabilities
Assists in the teaching of dental residents, in the principles of orthodontic dentistry and dental assistant utilization (DAU).
- Provides chair side assistance to residents and faculty.
- Maintains sterile, and prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies within working area.
- Maintains infection control standards.
- Maintains records of patients seen, procedures performed, materials used, and appointments.
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills
- Basic office or computer skills.
- Dental Assistant by Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) required
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required Completion of a recognized dental assistant educational program preferred

Physical Requirements
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
Key Responsibilities
The dental assistant will provide chair-side support to faculty and residents during orthodontic procedures and patient examinations. They are also responsible for maintaining sterile equipment, managing patient records, and ensuring infection control standards are met.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a Dental Assistant certification from the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a recognized dental assistant educational program is preferred.
