Job Description
Nurse Practitioner – Hematology/Oncology with BMT & Cellular Therapy Focus
Charleston Oncology | Charleston, SC (with travel to Mount Pleasant) | Full-time
No Night Call
You already know how to manage a patient through transplant, engraftment, and everything that can go sideways in between. We are looking for an experienced NP or PA who wants to bring that expertise to a physician-owned practice with a 50-year legacy in Charleston, where you will be a central part of a growing malignant hematology and cellular therapy program, not one of many.
You will partner directly with one of our hematologist/oncologists, on a team with deep BMT and cellular therapy expertise. You will follow patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
The core of the work is malignant hematology (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and MDS) across the full arc of treatment, including BMT and CAR-T. Panels also include a significant benign hematology population and some established general solid tumor patients, so no two clinic days look the same.
Who We Are Looking For
Experienced: 2+ years as an APP in hematology/oncology, with direct BMT and/or CAR-T patient management
Clinically confident: comfortable recognizing and escalating GVHD, CRS, ICANS, neutropenic fever, and other acute complications
Versatile: at ease moving between transplant follow-up, benign hematology, and a general oncology visit in the same day
Program-minded: you want to help shape protocols, workflows, and team education as the program grows
What You Will Do
- Manage malignant hematology patients across both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Evaluate and manage benign hematology (e. g., anemia, cytopenias, thrombosis and anticoagulation, bleeding disorders)
- Provide ongoing care for an established panel of general solid tumor patients
- Support pre-transplant workup, post-transplant and post-CAR-T follow-up, and long-term survivorship
- Monitor and manage transplant-related complications, immunosuppression, infection prophylaxis, and transfusion needs
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and fellow APPs on individualized treatment plans
- Manage your EPIC in-basket and keep patients and referring teams informed
Why Charleston Oncology
Real partnership: Work side by side with experienced hematologist/oncologists; your judgment matters here
Established practice: A 50-year legacy in Charleston; physician-owned and physician-led, with 13 board-certified oncologists and growing
Best of both: You are employed by our physicians, and clinical decisions stay with them, backed by the resources and reach of our hospital partner, Roper St. Francis Healthcare
Access to leadership: Flat structure with leaders who are accessible, so decisions happen in a hallway conversation, not a ticket queue
- Supportive team: A highly supportive team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and fellow APPs
- Full-service care: Clinical trials, in-house pharmacy, and on-site lab and infusion services
- Growth: Room to keep growing your skills and knowledge alongside experienced hematologist/oncologists
- Lifestyle: Practice in Charleston, consistently ranked among the top U.S. cities by Travel + Leisure
Benefits
- Strong 401(k)
- Generous paid time off
- Comprehensive benefits package
- Free lunch and free onsite parking
Requirements
- Active NP or PA license (or eligibility for South Carolina licensure) and national board certification
- 2+ years of hematology/oncology APP experience; BMT and/or CAR-T experience strongly preferred
- New graduate NPs and PAs with 7+ years of BMT nursing experience will also be considered
- Comfort with benign hematology and general solid tumor care
- Inpatient and outpatient experience in a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to obtain hospital privileges at Roper St. Francis Healthcare
- EPIC proficiency preferred
- Ability to practice at more than one Charleston-area location
