Senior Dietitian - Full Time - Day

Performs as Senior Dietitian for both main hospital and Johnson Rehabilitation Institute (JRI) units. Ensures quality and compliance with regulatory agencies by assisting with quarterly clinical chart audits. Acts as a clinical point person for diet office, and training new Registered Dietitians. Performs medical nutrition therapy (MNT) as assigned on patient units.

Responsibilities

• A day in the life of a Senior Dietitian at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
• Prioritizes work load and assists with daily coverage schedule.
• Appoints Total Parenteral Nutrition cases to clinical team as appropriate.
• Completes a total of 10-12 assessments per day.

Provides MNT to patients/clients. Reviews medical record for relevant information. Identifies nutrition risks and problems. Develops and implements individualized nutrition care plan.

Recommends appropriate diet prescription to meet patient/client nutrition needs. Changes/modifies diet order for solid food and existing tube feeding orders when previous order does not meet patient/client nutrition needs. Provides appropriate rationale for order change/modification.

Provides nutrition education to patients/clients and communicates with the patient and healthcare team as outlined in department policy. Discusses recommendations with the care team. Discusses feeding options and other nutrition care plans with patients/designated caregivers. Provides age appropriate diet education. Communicates with the health care team via rounds or individually.

Precepts dietetic interns.

Assessments are clearly documented and include all required fields as outlined in department policy using ADIME format. Discussions/education are documented as outlined in department policy. Rationale for changing a diet order is documented as outlined in department policy.

Assists the Clinical Nutrition Manager (CNM) in ensuring main hospital and JRI units are compliant with all regulatory agencies.

Collects and assesses QA data quarterly with CNM. Develops action plans for performance improvement based on QA audits.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Must have Bachelors Degree in nutrition related field.
• Minimum of 5 years clinical experience.
• Computer skills required.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred

Masters Degree preferred.

Licenses and Certifications Required

Registered Dietician License.

• One specialty certification, including but not limited to CNSC, CDCES, CSO, CSOWM, CSR, CSP, CSG

Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate.

Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
