About Us
The Mental Wellness Center (TMWC) is a values-driven group practice rooted in evidence-based care, community, and clinical excellence. We believe kids do better when the adults around them feel supported, and that includes our clinicians.
We are a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming practice that takes clinician sustainability seriously. We are looking for a therapist who loves the messy, playful, meaningful work of helping young children and their families heal and grow.
Why Clinicians Choose TMWC
$1500 sign-on bonus for new hires.
Referrals are already waiting. We have a steady stream of families looking for child therapy. You will not be building a caseload from scratch.
Supervision toward licensure. Provisionally licensed clinicians receive supervision as part of the job, from people who want to see you grow.
We handle the business side. Billing, credentialing, scheduling, and insurance are all taken care of by our administrative team, so your energy goes to the kids and families in front of you.
A schedule you build. We ask for two evenings a week until 7 p. m. or a weekend shift of your choosing. Beyond that, your schedule is yours.
A team that actually supports you. Regular team meetings, group consultation, lunch-and-learns, growth development groups, and ongoing professional development. Child work can be heavy, and you will not carry it alone.
Free EMDR consultation. Monthly consultation toward EMDR certification for clinicians who want to pursue it.
Position Overview
We are seeking a provisionally or fully licensed therapist to provide therapy to young children, typically ages 3 to 10, and their caregivers. You will support children with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and trauma-related concerns, using approaches that meet kids where they are, which usually means on the floor and through play. Caregivers are a core part of the work, and you will partner with them closely. Full-time and part-time positions are available.
Responsibilities
Provide developmentally appropriate, evidence-based therapy to young children, including play-based approaches.
Partner with parents and caregivers through regular check-ins, caregiver sessions, and practical guidance they can use at home.
Assess and treat concerns such as anxiety, big emotions and behaviors, trauma, grief, family transitions, attachment concerns, and challenges related to neurodivergence.
- Collaborate with schools, pediatricians, and other providers when appropriate and with consent.
- Complete clinical documentation within 24 business hours of each session.
- Participate in supervision (if provisionally licensed), team meetings, and peer consultation.
Requirements
- Current Illinois license: LPC, LSW, or LAMFT (provisional), or LCPC, LCSW, or LMFT (full).
- Eligible for insurance credentialing (our team manages the process for you).
- Experience working with young children in a clinical, school, or community setting.
- Comfort working with caregivers and family systems, not just the child.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Training in play therapy or in evidence-based child modalities such as Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), or Child-Centered Play Therapy.
- Experience supporting neurodivergent children and their families.
- Experience with early childhood trauma, attachment, or foster and adoptive families.
- Interest in developing parent workshops or child-focused groups.
What We Offer
- $1500 sign-on bonus.
- Pay of $42.50 - $66.15 per insurance-billed session, with clear progression tied to licensure and caseload milestones.
- Full-time clinicians can expect approximately $63,000 to $79,380 annually, plus paid time off.
- Health insurance for full-time clinicians (billing at least 25 clients per week).
- Retirement plan with employer contribution.
- Paid time off at your regular pay rate.
- Supervision toward licensure for provisionally licensed clinicians.
- Full administrative support for billing, credentialing, scheduling, and insurance.
- Play therapy space and materials provided.
What Success Looks Like
- 80% client utilization rate (Which means 80% of the clients assigned to you are scheduled).
- Clinical documentation completed within 24 business hours.
- Regular, meaningful caregiver involvement in treatment.
- Consistent billing aligned with employment status (full-time: 25 clients per week minimum).
Is This You?
You light up when a kid finally lets you into their world. You are patient, creative, and comfortable sitting on the floor with a sand tray or a pile of dinosaurs. You know that helping a child often means helping the whole family, and you can hold a stressed parent with the same warmth you bring to their kid. You want to keep growing as a clinician, and you want a team that grows with you.
