Job Description

  • Position: Bilingual Mental Health Counselor III
  • Classification: Full-time, Exempt
  • Reports to: Program Manager

Position Description

The Bilingual Mental Health Counselor will provide individual, family and group therapy in the greater Houston area. This is a home-based position, and most services will be provided in community-based locations (center, school, clinics, etc.). The Mental Health Counselor will assess, diagnose, and provide therapeutic interventions for DePelchin’s Prevention clients and families assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide individual, family and group therapy per diagnostic assessment and individualized treatment plan, utilizing accepted clinical procedures and demonstrating an understanding of family systems, human growth and development, and group dynamics concepts.

Coordinate treatment by consulting and collaborating with referral sources, teachers, school counselors and other professionals involved with the client.

Maintain accurate and timely client records, per policies and procedures, for all assigned clients.

Meet productivity expectations by maintaining assigned caseload and managing schedule to meet appropriate timeliness.

Manage a schedule that ensures that all groups, presentations, and activities meet program/grant productivity expectations and guidelines.

  • Maintain monthly statistics and data needed for program accountability and client services.
  • Provide outreach in the community to assist with program recruitment.
  • Provide community mental health presentations and trauma-informed training services as requested.

Follow all department and program policies and procedures; comply with COA (Council on Accreditation) standards.

Actively participate in the identification, communication, and resolution of problems, working together with peers, supervisors, and administrative staff to ensure quality, well-managed services.

Utilize trauma informed treatment practice in screening, assessment, and treatment planning for clients positive for trauma.

Utilize evidence based and best practices in client treatment.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy or related field.

Fluent in Spanish. English required.

Fully licensed to practice independently in the state of Texas as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT.

Two (2) years post graduate experience providing assessments and treatment of children, adolescents, and families.

Must be able to obtain certifications for all therapeutic interventions identified in the mental health program within the first six months of employment or as soon as possible.

  • Family Therapy
  • Parent-Child Psychotherapy and Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
  • Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)
  • Trauma and Grief Component Therapy for Adolescents
  • Motivational Interviewing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of social work practices.
  • Capable of managing time/work demands well, balancing the needs of clients, staff, and organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with fellow staff and referral sources.
  • Ability to deal with problems of moderate complexity that require an above average level of problem-solving.
  • Ability to maintain a professional, confidential working environment.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations and work force.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which vary according to client needs.

Work Conditions

  • Environment: Home-based office, varied community-based settings
  • Work Schedule: Mon – Fri, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, Occasional nights and weekends
  • Travel: Frequent, Local (Must have reliable transportation, valid Texas Driver License, and current Auto Insurance)

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a relevant field and possess a full, independent license to practice in Texas as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT. Additionally, the role requires two years of post-graduate experience and fluency in both English and Spanish.
