Are you a compassionate counselor who believes people can heal, grow, and build meaningful lives in recovery?

We’re seeking a Clinical Counselor to join our behavioral health team and provide high-quality, person-centered counseling services to individuals navigating substance use, addiction, mental health concerns, and co-occurring disorders.

In this role, you’ll develop meaningful therapeutic relationships with youth and adults, provide individual and group counseling, support clients through the recovery process, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized treatment plans. You’ll have the opportunity to help clients identify strengths, develop healthy coping skills, address barriers to recovery, and create sustainable change.

Position Summary

The Clinical Counselor provides individual and group counseling services to youth and adult populations experiencing substance use and/or behavioral health concerns. The counselor provides assessment, treatment planning, clinical interventions, case management, and ongoing support within the scope of their Ohio license and under appropriate clinical supervision.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working with individuals at various stages of change and recovery and is passionate about harm reduction, relapse prevention, recovery support, and evidence-based addiction treatment.

This position requires one of the following Ohio licenses:

  • LSW – Licensed Social Worker
  • LPC – Licensed Professional Counselor

LISW or LPCC licensure is also accepted.

What You’LL Do

Addiction & Recovery Services

  • Provide individual and group counseling to clients experiencing substance use and co-occurring behavioral health concerns.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships that promote trust, engagement, accountability, and long-term recovery.
  • Utilize evidence-based and recovery-oriented approaches to support clients in achieving their treatment goals.
  • Provide interventions focused on substance use, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, coping skills, healthy relationships, and recovery planning.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing and other appropriate interventions to help clients explore readiness for change and strengthen motivation for recovery.
  • Support clients in identifying triggers, high-risk situations, barriers to recovery, and strategies for maintaining progress.
  • Provide psychoeducation related to substance use, addiction, recovery, mental health, coping strategies, and available community resources.
  • Provide family counseling when appropriate and consistent with established principles and best practices.
  • Support clients experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns through integrated, individualized treatment.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical and psychosocial assessments and develop diagnostic summaries within the scope of licensure and clinical supervision.
  • Monitor client progress and modify treatment approaches as appropriate.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and collaborate with other professionals to coordinate client care.
  • Maintain an appropriate caseload and promote consistent client engagement and retention in treatment.

Clinical Services & Documentation

  • Provide cognitive behavioral treatment and other evidence-informed behavioral health interventions.
  • Interview and observe clients and develop individualized service plans based on identified needs, strengths, and recovery goals.
  • Provide diagnoses as permitted by licensure and under the close supervision of an independently licensed supervisor.
  • Complete in-depth assessments and clinical documentation that supports effective treatment and continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of all clinical services in accordance with agency, regulatory, contractual, accrediting, and funder requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of DSM-5/ICD-10 diagnostic criteria, substance use disorders, co-occurring conditions, and psychotropic medications and their potential side effects.
  • Utilize the electronic health record and service documentation system effectively.
  • Follow all professional, ethical, regulatory, agency, and licensure standards.

Teamwork & Professional Development

  • Collaborate with counselors, case managers, medical professionals, peer support staff, and other members of the treatment team.
  • Consult with team members regarding client progress, clinical concerns, barriers to treatment, and potential courses of action.
  • May provide clinical direction and participate in in-service training for other treatment team members.
  • Complete required agency, accrediting body, and funder training.
  • Remain current on emerging practices and evidence-based approaches in addiction and behavioral health treatment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to engage individuals and families in a respectful, ethical, culturally responsive, and nonjudgmental manner.
  • Strong understanding of substance use disorders, addiction, recovery, and co-occurring behavioral health conditions.
  • Ability to establish effective therapeutic relationships with individuals who may be experiencing complex or challenging circumstances.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing client and program needs.
  • Strong clinical boundaries, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based behavioral health and addiction treatment practices.
  • Familiarity with motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, and recovery-oriented approaches preferred.
  • General knowledge of psychotropic medications, side effects, and DSM-5/ICD-10 diagnostic criteria.
  • Ability to effectively utilize an electronic health record and electronic service documentation system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Current Ohio LSW or LPC license required.
  • LISW or LPCC license accepted.
  • 2–5 years of clinical counseling experience preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals impacted by substance use disorders, addiction, or co-occurring mental health conditions preferred.
  • Experience facilitating substance use or behavioral health groups is a plus.
  • Experience with recovery-oriented or community-based behavioral health services is a plus.
