Job Description

Position Overview

The Radiation Therapist administers prescribed radiation therapy treatments
under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist and in collaboration with the
Medical Physicist, Dosimetrist, nursing staff, and other members of the
radiation oncology team. Other responsibilities may include performing patient
identification and treatment verification, performing image-guided radiation
therapy (IGRT), applying immobilization and positioning devices, performing
image matching and target localization according to department protocols,
participating in motion-management techniques, monitoring patients during
treatment and responds to urgent clinical situations, documenting treatments
accurately in the electronic medical record and collaborating with the Radiation
Oncologist, Medical Physicist, Dosimetrist, nursing staff,, and other members of
the oncology team.  Receives direction from: Director of Oncology Services/
direct job supervision from Chief Radiation Therapist.

Education

* Graduate of an accredited radiation therapy educational program

Experience

* New Graduate/entry level applicants may be considered

Experience with CT simulation, IGRT, IMRT/VMAT, SBRT/SRS, or other advanced
techniques, preferred
* Previous radiation therapy experience preferred

License/Certifications

* ARRT certification and registration in Radiation Therapy (T), or eligibility
for certification/registration as permitted by organizational policy

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

* Knowledge of:

* Radiation therapy principles and treatment techniques

* Radiation safety

* Anatomy and physiology

* Cancer biology/pathology

* Treatment planning concepts

* CT simulation

* Image-guided radiation therapy

* Immobilization and positioning

* Motion management

* Patient care and assessment\

* Emergency procedures

* Electronic medical record/record-and-verify systems

* Quality assurance and incident reporting

Ability to

* Accurately interpret and follow treatment prescriptions/orders

* Identify discrepancies and stop/escalate treatment when appropriate

* Safely position and immobilize patients

* Operate radiation therapy and imaging equipment

* Communicate effectively with patients and the multidisciplinary team

* Recognize changes in patient condition

* Maintain accurate documentation

* Work independently while recognizing when consultation/escalation is required

* Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
