Position Overview

The Medical Director, Autoimmune Disease, will be a key medical leader dedicated to helping advance Adaptive’s emerging autoimmune diagnostics franchise. Working within Adaptive's medical and clinical development infrastructure, this individual will serve as the medical lead for current and future autoimmune pipeline products, with accountability for clinical development planning, evidence generation, early clinical experience, and medical input into product and commercialization strategy.

The Medical Director will bring the physician and patient perspective to cross-functional strategy, partner across R&D and commercial functions, and develop relationships with KOLs, investigators, and scientific collaborators. The role may have the opportunity to build a team as the autoimmune program and business case matures.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Lead the medical aspects of the autoimmune program and create and execute the clinical development and evidence plan in alignment with cross-functional product and franchise strategy

Provide disease-area, physician, and patient input to R&D, Product, Commercial, and Market Access teams, informing intended use, product requirements, clinical workflow, evidence needs, and commercialization planning

Design and oversee clinical validation, clinical utility, real-world evidence, and early clinical experience programs, partnering closely with Development, Biostatistics, Regulatory, Quality, Compliance and Operations

Develop and review protocols, investigator materials, clinical study reports, regulatory documents, publications, and presentations; interpret results and recommend next steps to program teams

Develop KOL and investigator relationships, lead advisory activities, and cultivate scientific collaborations and investigator-initiated research with clear objectives and deliverables

Partner with Biopharma Business Development to integrate Adaptive assays into drug-development programs, including patient selection, disease characterization, response monitoring, and trial endpoints

Monitor the evolving autoimmune disease landscape across indications and treatment modalities to evaluate unmet needs and inform product strategy

Build internal autoimmune expertise and represent Adaptive at scientific meetings and with external stakeholders

As program needs and data support growth, partner with senior Medical and Commercial leadership to define the medical resourcing plan and recruit, manage, and develop the team; manage assigned budgets, vendors, timelines, and compliance requirements

Lead clinical strategy across the product lifecycle, from early discovery through commercialization, partnering with cross-functional senior leaders to define product strategy and ensure effective governance, decision-making, and execution.

Required

MD or DO degree from an accredited institution; medical license in good standing (preferred) or documented prior licensure in good standing and 8+ years of experience of which:

At least 4 years of post-training clinical, translational, or clinical-research experience in autoimmune or immune-mediated disease

At least 4 years of industry experience in clinical development, medical affairs, diagnostics, biotechnology, or biopharma, including work with molecular diagnostics, biomarkers, or precision-medicine products

Board certification or eligibility in a specialty that manages autoimmune disease

Experience developing and executing clinical evidence plans and prospective studies, including protocols, data interpretation, study reports, and scientific publications or presentations

Working knowledge of diagnostic clinical-performance and clinical-utility study design, biostatistics, GCP, human-subject protections, and applicable FDA, CLIA/CAP, privacy, and quality requirements

Track record of partnering across R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Biostatistics, Product, Commercial, Market Access, and Business Development to translate medical evidence and stakeholder insights into shared program decisions

Experience developing KOL and investigator relationships and leading advisory boards or scientific collaborations; strong scientific writing and presentation skills

Ability to travel up to 25%

Preferred

• Experience advancing a diagnostic or biomarker through validation or launch, supporting biopharma drug-development programs, or helping build a new disease-area medical capability and team

Compensation

Salary Range: $206,400 - $309,600

Adaptive’s posted compensation information includes a base salary (or hourly rate) range and summary of other available total compensation. The base salary range represents a minimum-to-maximum salary (or hourly rate) available to candidates upon extension of offer.

Base salary is thoughtfully considered upon offer and is determined through multiple evaluation checks throughout the interview process, including: a candidate’s ability to meet minimum qualifications (skills/experience/education), a candidate’s ability to thoughtfully address preferred qualifications, current market conditions, and internal pay equity.

Listed base salary is exclusive of bonus, commission, equity, differential pay, benefits, and other incentives.
