Job Description

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for performing the accurate delivery of
prescribed ionizing therapeutic radiation under the direction of a Radiation
Oncologist, using a variety of complex techniques and equipment.

Responsibilities

* Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plan as directed by the
Radiation Oncologist.

* Educate patients on procedures, skincare, side effects, and nutrition.

* Performs simulation procedures and prepares immobilization devices for
various body parts.

* Monitors patients’ clinical progress, withholds treatment if necessary, and
refers patients to Radiation Oncologist or Executive Director for appropriate
intervention.

* Operation of the therapeutic equipment, proper patient positioning,
monitoring of the patient during the procedure, and related clerical duties.

* Evaluates and assesses treatment machine operations; recognizes machine
malfunctions and reports them to Executive Director.

* Communicates clearly and concisely with all members of the health care team,
patients, and families.

* Meet and adhere to strict radiation safety guidelines, internal quality
controls, organizational standards, department policies and procedures, and
strategic goals.

* Accurately complete and chart all simulation and treatment summaries,
reports, and documentation.

Qualifications

* Graduated from an accredited Radiation Therapy School.

* Current ARRT and State licensure required and will be verified prior to
employment. 

* Current BLS certificate required and will be verified prior to employment.

* Minimum of six (6) months’ experience as a staff therapist preferred;
however, willing to train recent graduates.

* Very comfortable asking probing questions to patients.

* Must demonstrate a caring, compassionate, and patient attitude.

* Maintain HIPAA compliance.

* Multitasking and proactive problem-solving.

Travel

* Must have the ability & willingness to travel to other sites as necessary
within a geographic region.

Physical Requirements for the Job

* Able to sit, stand, and or walk throughout the day. 

* Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen. 

* Good general health and stress-coping ability. 

* Complete mobility and the capacity to engage in strenuous action, such as
walking continuously into and out of the treatment area and lifting and
moving patients as required.
