The Pedi Surgery Nurse Practitioner provides specialized advanced nursing care under the supervision of a physician, including patient assessments, diagnosis and treatment planning, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, coordinating care, maintaining medical records, educating patients, and collaborating with families and healthcare teams to support positive patient outcomes. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.

Position Key Accountabilities

• Performs relevant patient assessments and physical examinations.
• Coordinates, directs, and implements patient's plan of care.
• Orders, conducts, and interprets pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures.
• Makes medical recommendations and/or referrals.
• Formulates, implements, and evaluates an outcome-based treatment plan.
• Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes.
• Facilitates patient education relating to medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.

Collaborates with patients, families, other clinicians, and referral services to assist in the patient's recovery.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills

None

Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required

• Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Nurse Practitioner (APRN-NP) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
• Clinical specialty certification determined by the department required

Minimum Education

Master's Degree in Nursing as NP required Master's Degree in Nursing with completion of a post-masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program required

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
