Job Summary
A Speech-language pathologist (SLP) evaluates and treats patients in the acute medical setting. The speech pathologist provides services to patients of all ages as ordered immediately post trauma, surgery, acute medical event or exacerbation.
Speech pathologists assist patients to reach their highest level of function in the areas of communication and swallowing. The SLP makes recommendations for the next level of care and also provides education and to patients and their families.
Speech pathologists participate in specialty teams including pediatric, neonatal care, assistive technology, and endoscopic voice/swallowing assessments.
Education
Required: Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology/Communicative Disorders and Sciences
Experience
Required: At least 5 years' of related experience
Skills
- Good clinical expertise, human relations skills and organizational skills required.
- Self-motivated individual who can work independently with little direct supervision required
- Has demonstrated interest in professional growth by attendance at continuing education workshops, and applications of new principles and/or techniques.
- Must have good communication skills and a positive attitude
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Required: License or Provisional License of Speech Language Pathology active in the state of Missouri.
- For Provisional Licenses, additional requirements are as follows:
- Supervision requirements as outlined in Missouri State Statutes must be met.
- The Board approved national examination must be passed within 12 months of receiving the provisional license.
- BLS must be obtained within 90 days of hire
Key Responsibilities
The Speech-language pathologist evaluates and treats patients in an acute medical setting to improve communication and swallowing functions. They also provide education to patients and families while collaborating with specialty teams for complex care needs.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology or Communicative Disorders and Sciences. A minimum of 5 years of related experience and an active Missouri state license are required.
