Position Overview

Henry Ford Health System is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Neurosciences team. This role focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination of patients with acute and chronic neurologic conditions, serving as a first-line provider to patients and their families in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The NP/PA will provide inpatient and outpatient medical care while working closely with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other members of the care team to ensure high-quality, efficient, and evidence-based patient care. Responsibilities include patient evaluation and management, development of treatment plans, coordination of care, patient education, and performing specialty-specific procedures as indicated by training, experience, and credentialing. This position offers a 40-hour per week schedule with weekend coverage, no call requirements, and the opportunity to work within a supportive Neuroscience program dedicated to improving patient outcomes across the continuum of neurological care.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of neuroscience experience as an APP required
  • NP or PA graduate from an accredited program
  • Current (or in-process) Michigan licensure
  • National certification (ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA)
  • BLS required; ACLS required (or obtained after hire)

Credentials

Education & Training

Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)

Nurse Practitioner (NP): Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)

Licensure

Current licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan, or in the process of applying (proof of application required).

Certification

  • PA: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • NP: National certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan (e. g., ANCC, AANP)

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required (may be obtained after hire)
  • DEA / Controlled Substance Licensure
  • PA: DEA and Michigan Controlled Substance License (CSL) required through credentialing

NP: DEA registration required through credentialing; NPs do not hold a Michigan CSL and will use their Michigan license number during the application process

Key Responsibilities

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive medical care for patients with acute and chronic neurologic conditions in a multidisciplinary environment. Responsibilities include patient evaluation, development of treatment plans, and coordination of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
