Job Summary

This position is full-time, 4-10s or 5-8s, M-F, 7a-5:30p, no weekends or holidays

Under the supervision and direction of the Medical, Advanced Practice Provider (APP) and Administrative Director of the MGH Wound Care Center, and in accordance with the rules and regulations of Massachusetts governing APP practice, the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (APP) will be responsible for the evaluation and management of patients referred to the inpatient MGH Wound Care service and seeking care at the MGH Wound Care ambulatory clinic. Will collaborate with physicians, surgeons, nursing and administrative staff for patient care and the administration of the Center.

Responsibilities for inpatient care consist of providing inpatient consult services by performing initial patient assessment, wound care, treatment as indicated, and coordinating transition to the outpatient Wound Clinic.

In the outpatient Wound Clinic, the APP will treat the patient’s wounds, obtain patient histories, perform physical examinations to evaluate patients with cutaneous wounds, arrange diagnostic testing, coordinate consultations, design or modify treatment plans, communicate with referring physicians, and provide patient and family education.

Ideal candidate will have

  • Wound Care Certification or be willing to complete Wound Care certification course within 1 year, required
  • 3-5 years of experience with preference for surgical or wound care experience
  • 2 years APP experience, required

Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for assessing and managing various patient populations, including those with medical and/or surgical conditions, as well as providing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, developing appropriate plans of care, and conducting ongoing evaluations. May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners.

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and education to a designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides high-quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.

  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
