Responsibilities

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician assistant in the Department of Critical Care will care for patients in a variety of ICU service lines including Cardiothoracic/Transplant ICU, Neuroscience ICU and Abdominal Transplant/Surgical ICU. The APPs rotate between all three of these service lines, the specific area the APP will be assigned to upon hiring will vary based on department needs and relevant experience. The Cardiothoracic ICU involves caring for patients requiring mechanical circulatory support including ECMO and Impella, pre and post heart and lung transplant and post cardiothoracic surgery. The Neuroscience ICU involves care for patients with ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, neurology patients requiring ICU care and post neurosurgical procedures. The abdominal transplant ICU involves care of patients pre and post liver and kidney transplant and any other surgical patient requiring ICU care post-operatively. The critical care NP or PA will perform critical care procedures per hospital credentialling policy.

• Obtaining patient history
• Performing physical examinations
• Ordering and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
• Formulating a diagnostic impression
• Developing and implementing a treatment plan
• Monitoring effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
• Offering counseling and education to meet patient needs
• Making appropriate referrals
• Prescribing and dispensing prescription medication
• Assisting in surgery
• Performing minor procedures and surgical procedures
• Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of patient's status and appropriately interprets information relative to patient's age-specific needs.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current FL RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP, ACNP, AGACNP, AGNP.

Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the FL State Board of Medical Practice.

Additional Qualifications

Active BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date and DEA registration required.
