Job Description

The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is responsible for the overall pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance, and clinical oversight of PromptCare's enteral nutrition support pharmacy based in New Jersey.

This role serves as the designated PIC of record for the NJ home pharmacy and willing to obtain non-resident pharmacy licensure in Tennessee, New York, and Massachusetts within six (6) months of employment to support and supervise the dispensing, verification, and shipment of enteral nutrition formulas and related supplies to patients residing in those states.

The PIC ensures that all multi-state dispensing activity complies with each state board of pharmacy's non-resident/mail-order pharmacy regulations, as well as applicable federal requirements (DEA, FDA, HIPAA).

This is a hands-on regulatory — not strictly administrative — requiring the PIC to personally hold and maintain each required license, sign board renewals/attestations, and serve as the responsible, licensed pharmacist for interstate shipping compliance.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited program
  • Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in New Jersey (required as home-state PIC license)
  • Active, unrestricted (or eligible for immediate non-resident registration) pharmacist license in Tennessee, New York, and Massachusetts
  • Active DEA registration; ability to obtain additional state controlled-substance registrations as required.
  • Board certification in Nutrition Support Pharmacy (BCNSP) preferred, not required.

Minimum 3–5 years of pharmacy practice experience, with direct experience in home infusion, specialty pharmacy, or enteral/parenteral nutrition support strongly preferred.

Prior experience serving as Pharmacist in Charge or in a multi-state/non-resident pharmacy compliance role strongly preferred.

Working knowledge of state board of pharmacy non-resident/mail-order regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Strong working knowledge of enteral nutrition therapy, formula selection, and patient monitoring.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy dispensing systems, e-prescribing, and inventory/shipping compliance tools.
  • Excellent regulatory judgment; comfortable interfacing directly with state boards of pharmacy
  • Strong leadership, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills

Job Responsibilities, Included But Not Limited To

Maintain personal, active, unrestricted pharmacist licensure in NJ, TN, NY, and MA at all times; promptly renew licenses and notify HR/Compliance of any renewal, disciplinary action, or status change.

Serve as the designated Pharmacist in Charge of record for the NJ pharmacy permit, and as the responsible pharmacist for non-resident pharmacy permits/registrations in TN, NY, and MA.

Monitor and interpret each state board of pharmacy's non-resident pharmacy statutes and regulations (e. g., NY non-resident registration, MA out-of-state pharmacy permit, TN non-resident pharmacy permit) to ensure PromptCare's shipping practices into those states remain compliant.

Ensure pharmacy permits, non-resident registrations, and DEA registrations are current and properly filed with each applicable state board prior to shipping into that state.

Serve as primary point of contact for state board inspections, audits, and inquiries related to non-resident dispensing activity.

Oversee day-to-day operations of the enteral nutrition pharmacy, including order entry, clinical review, verification, and final dispensing.

Establish and enforce policies and procedures (P&Ps) governing multi-state dispensing workflows, including state-specific labeling, prescription transfer, and record-retention requirements.

Ensure proper cold-chain/shipping protocols for enteral nutrition products shipped across state lines, coordinating with logistics/operations teams

Review and approve clinical protocols for enteral nutrition therapy management, including formula selection, tolerance monitoring, and physician order verification

Oversee drug utilization review (DUR), adverse event reporting, and quality assurance programs specific to enteral nutrition patients across all licensed states

Participate in interdisciplinary care coordination with intake, Respiratory Operations, and reimbursement teams for home-based enteral patients

Maintain accurate records of all non-resident shipments, licensure documentation, and state-specific compliance logs

Report monthly/quarterly compliance status to Senior Management and Compliance Department

Support HR and Compliance with licensure verification during onboarding, credentialing, and periodic audits (e. g., NCPDP, payer, or accreditation surveys)

Maintain compliance with ACHC accreditation standards applicable to enteral nutrition pharmacies, if applicable
