Job Description
OPT (Outpatient Therapy) Therapist at R&C Consulting Group, the role would generally focus on providing outpatient behavioral-health treatment to individuals, couples, families, or groups, along with clinical documentation, care coordination, and treatment planning. North Carolina’s LMHP classification similarly includes assessment, diagnosis/treatment, care coordination, transition planning, crisis intervention, and documentation.
OPT Therapist — Roles & Responsibilities
Clinical Services
- Provide individual, family, couples, and/or group therapy based on client needs and scope of practice.
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments and identify presenting behavioral-health needs.
- Develop individualized, person-centered treatment plans with measurable goals and interventions.
- Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions appropriate to the client’s diagnosis and treatment needs.
- Monitor client progress and modify treatment approaches when clinically indicated.
- Provide crisis assessment, intervention, and appropriate safety planning when necessary.
- Identify and address co-occurring mental-health and substance-use concerns when within the therapist’s scope.
Documentation & Compliance
Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, service notes, discharge summaries, and other required clinical documentation accurately and timely.
Maintain client records in accordance with R&C Consulting Group policies, NC requirements, payer requirements, and applicable confidentiality standards.
- Document measurable progress toward treatment goals.
- Maintain required licensure, certifications, continuing education, and clinical credentials.
- Follow agency policies, ethical standards, HIPAA requirements, and applicable state and payer regulations.
Care Coordination
- Coordinate services with physicians, psychiatrists, case managers, Qualified Professionals, Peer Support Specialists, schools, families, and other members of the treatment team as appropriate.
- Make referrals to community resources and higher levels of care when indicated.
- Participate in interdisciplinary/team meetings and contribute clinical recommendations.
- Assist with transition and discharge planning to promote continuity of care.
Client & Family Engagement
- Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients.
- Educate clients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, coping strategies, community resources, and relapse-prevention/support strategies when applicable.
- Promote client self-determination, recovery, independence, and achievement of treatment goals.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
Program/Agency Responsibilities
- Participate in clinical supervision and case consultation.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and quality-improvement activities.
- Assist with community outreach and behavioral-health education when assigned.
- Maintain productivity and scheduling expectations established by R&C Consulting Group.
Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding clinical concerns, safety issues, barriers to treatment, and significant changes in client status.
Minimum Qualifications
For an R&C OPT Therapist position, I would recommend listing qualifications such as:
Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related behavioral-health field.
Current North Carolina clinical license or appropriate associate/provisional credential consistent with the position and services provided.
- Examples may include LCMHC/LCMHC-A, LCSW/LCSWA, LMFT/LMFTA, LCAS/LCAS-A, or another applicable credential.
- Experience providing outpatient behavioral-health services preferred.
- Strong clinical documentation, assessment, treatment-planning, communication, and time-management skills.

The therapist will provide evidence-based behavioral health treatment to individuals, couples, and families while maintaining accurate clinical documentation. Requirements
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a behavioral health field and possess a current North Carolina clinical license or provisional credential. Strong skills in clinical assessment, treatment planning, and adherence to ethical and regulatory standards are required.
