The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e. g., part-time).

Position Overview

Capital Health is seeking an Associate Medical Director to join our Emergency Department team.

Under the direction of the Emergency Department Medical Director, provides physician leadership and operational oversight for the Capital Health Emergency Department sites while maintaining an active clinical practice.

Partners with nursing and administrative leadership to improve patient throughput, quality of care, and provider scheduling. Collaborates with the system's other Associate Medical Director to standardize practice and operations across sites. Requires strong clinical judgment, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Opportunity Details

Provides direct emergency medical care, including examination, diagnosis, ordering of diagnostic tests, treatment, and disposition of patients, working clinical shifts at Capital Health Emergency Departments.

Provides day-to-day oversight of physician and advanced practice provider operations. Leads physician efforts to improve patient throughput, including door-to-provider time, length of stay, left without being seen rates, boarding, and admission and discharge processes, in partnership with nursing and hospital leadership.

Monitors and reports department quality metrics; participates in and leads quality improvement initiatives, peer review, case review, and follow-up of patient safety events.

Develops and manages the physician and advanced practice provider schedule to ensure appropriate coverage across sites, in coordination with the Medical Director and the other Associate Medical Director.

Collaborates with the other Associate Medical Director to align clinical practice, policies, and operational processes across all three Emergency Departments.

Participates in onboarding, orientation, and ongoing performance feedback for physicians and advanced practice providers.

Addresses patient and staff concerns and complaints in a responsive and timely manner

Qualifications

MD/DO Degree. Board certification in Emergency Medicine from the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM).

  • Minimum of three years of post-residency clinical experience as an Emergency Department physician.
  • Prior leadership, committee, or administrative experience preferred.

NJ & PA licenses, DEA and CDS, and other medical staff bylaw requirements. Strong communication and leadership skills; highly organized and productive. Working knowledge of ED throughput metrics, quality and regulatory standards (CMS, The Joint Commission), and provider scheduling.

Ability to lead and motivate clinical teams, manage conflict, and make sound decisions in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.

Exempt Hours.

Schedule

Approximately 20 hours per week of clinical shifts across all three Emergency Departments and 12 hours per week of protected administrative time
