Residential Community Counselor

• Full and part time positions available
• Weekdays - mornings, day, and evening shifts
• Weekends - some weekend shifts available

Purpose of Position- The Residential Community Counselor supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in living meaningful, self-directed, and connected lives through person-centered support tailored to their strengths, preferences, goals, and support plans. Working in partnership with the Program Supervisor, Companion Provider/House Leader, and other team members, this role helps individuals develop skills, build relationships, access community opportunities, and achieve personal goals. The Residential Community Counselor provides support across home, work, and community settings, promoting independence, choice, and inclusion. Through everyday experiences, the role encourages personal growth, meaningful participation, and a sense of belonging within the home and broader community.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

1. Support Independence, Inclusion, and Personal Growth

• Build trusting relationships and support individuals in achieving personal goals, making choices, developing skills, and increasing independence.
• Foster self-advocacy, personal expression, cultural identity, and meaningful relationships.
• Support participation in community, recreational, educational, volunteer, and civic activities based on individual interests.
• Teach and reinforce life skills such as communication, transportation, money management, safety awareness, and social engagement.
• Promote belonging by helping individuals develop natural supports and meaningful connections within their communities.

2. Provide Residential and Personal Care Support

• Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal care, mobility, communication, nutrition, and other individualized supports.
• Support medication administration, health appointments, wellness activities, and therapeutic services in accordance with training and agency procedures.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming, and respectful home environment that promotes dignity, privacy, and well-being.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow all required reporting procedures.

3. Support Employment and Meaningful Contribution

• Assist individuals in exploring career interests, employment opportunities, volunteer experiences, and other meaningful activities.
• Support job development activities, workplace success, and skill-building through coaching and individualized supports as assigned.
• Encourage participation in work, volunteer service, household responsibilities, and other opportunities that contribute to personal fulfillment and community involvement.

4. Implement Individualized Support Plans

• Follow Person-Centered Support Plans and all applicable health, behavioral, safety, and communication protocols.
• Use positive, trauma-informed, and least restrictive approaches to support skill development and emotional well-being.
• Observe, document, and communicate significant changes in health, behavior, progress, or support needs.
• Seek guidance when situations fall outside established plans, training, or authority.

5. Documentation, Compliance, and Resource Management

• Complete required documentation, records, and reports accurately and within established timelines.
• Comply with all applicable regulations, licensing standards, and organizational policies.
• Protect confidential information and support the responsible use of individual, household, and organizational resources.
• Report incidents, safety concerns, rights violations, medication errors, and suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation as required.

6. Teamwork and Professionalism

• Participate in meetings, training, shift communication, and organizational activities.
• Contribute to a positive, professional, respectful, and inclusive team culture while representing Imagine! and L'Arche in the community.

• Maintain reliable attendance and flexibility in a home and community environment where needs and plans may change.
• Perform other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities may evolve as the interests, goals, and support needs of individuals and the community change.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

• General knowledge of the developmental disabilities system in Colorado.
• Ability to build authentic relationships while maintaining sound professional boundaries.
• Strong observation, listening, communication, documentation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with individuals and groups at all professional levels.
• Ability to teach skills patiently through modeling, prompting, practice, encouragement, and thoughtful fading of support.
• Ability to work independently in homes, workplaces, and community settings while remaining connected and accountable to the team.
• Comfortable with supporting people with varied communication, mobility, medical, behavioral, sensory, and personal care needs
• Ability to productively address and resolve conflict.
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with various technologies, including word processing software, internet-based databases, assistive technology, personal mobile device, etc.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to meet Imagine! driving requirements.

Training/Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 19 years old
• 2 years of college preferred.
• Ability to successfully complete all required training.

Experience

• Experience supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
• Relevant lived experience, caregiving, community-building, employment support, teaching, or human services experience will be considered.

          Working Environment/Physical Activities

• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to drive a van and safely operate a wheelchair lift.
• Ability to work various shifts, including overnight shifts.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations as they arise.
• Work occurs in a private home, workplaces, vehicles, community locations, offices, and outdoor settings.
