Summary The Detox Counselor provides direct clinical support to clients undergoing medical detoxification for substance use disorders. This role focuses on assessment, emotional support, crisis intervention, and early-stage counseling to promote stabilization and engagement in ongoing treatment at lower levels of care. The Detox Counselor works closely with medical and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compassionate, and effective care. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Conduct initial assessments and screenings upon admission. Conduct daily check-ins with clients focused on stabilization and motivation. Facilitate psychoeducational and process group. Support clients in managing withdrawal sym

• ptoms, utilize motivational interviewing, and use trauma informed care approaches. Assist the client in developing an individualized treatment plan, monitor the client’s progress, and update the treatment plan as needed. Prepare discharge plan(s), and coordinate transitions or step downs to appropriate levels of care. Communicate urgent concerns to medical and supervisory staff. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation (assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries) Ensure documentation meets regulatory and accreditation standards (e. g., Joint Commission, state guidelines). Work closely with nurses, physicians, case managers, and recovery support staff. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews. Communicate effectively with referral sources and external providers when appropriate. Other duties may be assigned.

Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment Excellent communication and documentation skills Empathy, professionalism, and strong ethical standards Education, Licensure, & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field required. Licensure as LMSC, LPC, LMFT in the State of Texas will be considered. LCDC, or equivalent substance abuse certification preferred (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe) 1–3 years of experience in substance abuse treatment or behavioral health preferred Experience in detox or residential settings strongly preferred Qualifications & Responsibilities Respects confidentiality always.
