Behavior Counselor

The Behavior Counselor assumes a supportive role in the ongoing development and implementation of program wide behavior management program and policies; provides non-professional counseling to residents and/or students; provides crisis prevention and intervention to individual clients, coaches direct care staff in appropriate crisis prevention and intervention.

Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Assist in preparing and conducting trainings and in-services specific to crisis prevention, behavior management and trauma-informed care.

Work with treatment teams to facilitate discussions of milieu problem-solving and creation and implementation of individual behavior plans.

Supervise clients in activities in order to observe or effect changes in their social behavior. This includes: teaching prosocial behaviors, check fidelity of behavioral plans, and model and coach direct care staff.

Coordinate behavior plans with the strategies and interventions as developed by the treatment team.

Provide a consistent and reliable supportive presence.

Complete all assigned paperwork, including the crisis intervention documentation and behavior intervention documentation.

Participate as an active member of the treatment team. Observe, evaluate, and communicate all appropriate information, orally and in writing.

• Assist in the development and maintenance of a positive program culture.
• Maintain proper rules, safety, and security of clients, providing crisis intervention when necessary.
• Inform the treatment team of all relevant situations.
• Attend trainings and meetings as required.

Share/transmit the mission and vision of Arrow Child & Family Ministries to staff and to clients and families served.

Review client files on a quarterly and/or annual basis, as needed, to access service plan implementation, progress towards desired outcomes, and future appropriateness of service plan.

Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, company policy, and regulatory agency standards.

May be required to drive vehicles, be insurable with our auto insurance provider, and complete company vehicle training.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and at least one (1) year of experience working with children and families, preferably in the child welfare and/or special education industry. Bachelor’s degree preferred; may be substituted with a Registered Behavior Technician certification. May be certified as a trainer in related models and interventions.
