Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and professional Lead Behavioral Health Technician (Lead BHT) to provide day-to-day leadership at our adult Behavioral Health Residential Facility (BHRF) in Chandler.
This is a full-time leadership position, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m. The Lead BHT is responsible for supervising staff, coordinating the daily operation of the home, maintaining adequate staffing coverage, and serving as a primary point of communication between the residential program and members of each resident's treatment team.
While we are prepared to train and further develop the right person, this is not an entry-level leadership position. Candidates should already possess foundational supervisory, organizational, administrative, and professional communication skills.
What We're Looking For
The Successful Candidate Must Be Able To
- Provide day-to-day supervision, direction, coaching, and accountability to BHT/BHPP staff.
- Develop and manage the staff schedule and ensure the facility maintains appropriate coverage.
Respond proactively to call-outs and staffing changes, including contacting available staff and coordinating overtime coverage.
Understand that maintaining shift coverage is a leadership responsibility. If a scheduled employee calls out and another qualified staff member cannot be secured to cover the shift, the Lead BHT may be required to provide coverage.
Be available for occasional weekend or after-hours work when necessary to maintain adequate staffing and program operations.
Have first opportunity to accept available overtime when additional coverage is needed or appropriately coordinate and distribute overtime opportunities among qualified staff requesting additional hours.
Communicate professionally by email and telephone with case managers, guardians, advocates, healthcare providers, and other members of a resident's treatment team.
- Manage calendars, appointments, meetings, deadlines, and other time-sensitive program responsibilities.
- Schedule, organize, and facilitate staff meetings and participate in treatment-team and care-coordination meetings.
- Delegate responsibilities appropriately and follow up to ensure assignments are completed.
- Review staff documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
Assist with resident admissions, treatment coordination, medication-related processes, incident reporting, and required residential documentation.
Maintain positive working relationships with staff while being comfortable addressing performance concerns and holding team members accountable.
Communicate operational and clinical concerns to administration promptly and demonstrate appropriate follow-through.
Remain engaged in direct care and be willing to step into BHT responsibilities when operationally necessary.
Leadership & Scheduling Expectations
Because a BHRF operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, leadership responsibility does not always end at 3:00 p. m. or on Friday.
The Lead BHT's regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a. m.–3:00 p. m. However, the Lead is responsible for managing the staff schedule and ensuring appropriate coverage. This may occasionally require working outside the regular schedule, including evenings, overnights, weekends, or holidays when staffing needs cannot otherwise be resolved.
The Lead will have the opportunity to accept available overtime or may coordinate overtime coverage with qualified staff who are interested in additional hours. If coverage cannot be secured, the Lead must be prepared to provide coverage when necessary.
Candidates should carefully consider this responsibility before applying. Dependability, flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to manage staffing challenges are essential to succeeding in this position.
The Right Candidate
We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, professional, approachable, and solutions-oriented. This person should be comfortable leading others without requiring constant direction and capable of balancing staff supervision, administrative responsibilities, resident needs, and communication with the treatment team.
You do not need to know everything on day one. We will train you on our specific systems, policies, procedures, and expectations and continue to develop you as a leader.
However, applicants should already have transferable experience demonstrating that they can supervise people, communicate professionally, use email and electronic systems, manage schedules and calendars, facilitate meetings, organize competing priorities, solve routine staffing problems, and follow through on assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in behavioral health, psychology, social services, human services, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.
At least two years of behavioral health, residential, mental health, social services, or comparable human-services experience.
Previous supervisory, lead, shift-lead, program coordination, or comparable leadership experience strongly preferred.
Demonstrated professional written and verbal communication skills.
Experience managing staff schedules, coordinating coverage, or performing comparable workforce-management responsibilities is strongly preferred.
Comfortable using professional email, electronic calendars, electronic health records, and other computer-based systems.
- Ability to organize and facilitate meetings and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary professionals.
- Ability and willingness to work outside the regular Monday–Friday schedule when necessary to maintain program coverage.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Arizona Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card and required TB screening.
- Valid Arizona driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- First Aid/CPR and Mental Health First Aid certification or ability to meet agency training requirements.
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 7:00 a. m.–3:00 p. m.
Additional hours, including weekends, may be required based on staffing and operational needs. The Lead BHT is responsible for coordinating staffing coverage and must be prepared to provide coverage when another qualified employee cannot be secured.
