Job Description

Wellness Centers Program

Trauma/Grief & Loss Group Counselor

RAMS, Inc. provides integrated behavioral health services (Mental Health and Substance Abuse) at several San Francisco Wellness Centers located in various San Francisco Unified School District high schools. The Wellness Centers are a joint project between RAMS, SFDPH and SFUSD. Status: Part-Time (20 Hours/wk)

Essential Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide trauma, grief and mindfulness groups across 18 of the Wellness Center sites in the public high schools in San Francisco.
  • Respond and provide support to Wellness Centers during school-wide crises; roles may include debriefing school communities; providing short to long term groups; risk assessments for individual students; providing consultation to support staff, parents and students regarding various trauma responses.
  • Provide culturally appropriate and sensitive school-based mental health and substance abuse services, with emphasis on Trauma-related services, in the forms of crisis intervention & assessments; mediation & de-escalation; individual & group counseling (ongoing & immediate response, and short-term as needed); and case management & liaison (e. g. primary care, counseling), and intake assessment, clinical evaluation, and consultation services
  • Provide outreach & education on mental health and substance abuse services, with emphasis on Trauma/Grief & Loss issues, in community/school-based settings (e. g. school assemblies, health fairs, parent groups) to students, families of students, school staff, community members, and other professionals in the form of consultation & workshops (e. g. issues of trauma/grief & loss), and consultation on school climate activities as necessary
  • Develop and maintain administrative and treatment records related to client care in accordance to standards specified by funding source and agency's policies
  • Provide clinical training and education to staff, trainees, and interns as deemed necessary
  • Participate in RAMS internal and/or external trainings as required by the position or agency
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Collaborate with and be part of the coordinated Wellness Center core team member, representing RAMS and as the behavioral health professional of the team
  • Perform job assignments primarily at the school sites
  • Participate in SAP/SST meetings, as requested
  • Participate in Wellness Center weekly team clinical meetings, as needed
  • Participate in administrative Wellness Center team meetings at RAMS clinic site
  • Provide short term mental health & substance abuse treatment of clients, as clinically indicated.
  • Provide crisis intervention, assessments, and triage of students
  • Provide consultation, in-service training to school staff, as needed
  • Provide group intervention: subject, frequency, and number of students to be determined by Wellness Center team

Minimum Required Educational Level & Experience

  • At least a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field; licensure as an MFT or LCSW or registration with BBS is highly preferred
  • At least one year of experience providing both mental health and substance abuse individual/group services in school-based settings
  • At least one year of experience providing youth-based crisis support services in a community-based behavioral health setting; At least two years of work in public/behavioral health setting

Other Requirements

  • Familiarity with community behavioral health systems of care in San Francisco, including the philosophy of care, levels of care for clinical services, and the delivery of such services, highly preferred
  • Familiarity with the San Francisco community resources/services (which may include health, mental health, substance abuse, vocational, housing, etc), highly preferred
  • Strong commitment to the philosophy, goals, & mission of RAMS in providing community-based, culturally competent, and consumer-guided mental health/substance abuse treatment and prevention services to the community
  • Commitment to engaging in professional development activities such as trainings, continuing education seminars, case conferences, and reviewing up-to-date material, etc., as related to treatment strategies for the population of the Wellness Centers Program
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively, function independently, and interact professionally with a diverse, multi-cultural, and interdisciplinary staff of all levels
