Job Description

Occupational Therapist

DEPARTMENT: Rehabilitation Services

PVH employment application required. All job offers contingent upon background check and completion of pre-employment physical.

Position: Full time, 32 hour/week, salaried, exempt, non-union.

Job Functions

1. Provides occupational therapy evaluation, reassessment, treatment, and discharge planning per physician referral and within the Occupational Therapy scope of practice in outpatient, inpatient, and swing bed settings. Evaluations and reassessments are accurate, complete, and age appropriate according to departmental policy.

2. Interprets evaluation findings and develops individualized functional treatment plans and goals, utilizing evidence-based practice and adhering to applicable insurance guidelines, clinical policies, and procedures.

3. Implements therapeutic interventions and monitors patient response, modifying the treatment plan as indicated based on patient performance and progress toward goals.

4. Provides education to patients and families regarding treatment plans, goals, strategies, safety, and home management as appropriate throughout the episode of care.

5. Communicates patient status, progress, and plan of care with members of the interdisciplinary team and participates in interdisciplinary and family meetings as appropriate.

6. Completes timely and accurate documentation of patient care activities in the electronic medical record, including evaluations, treatment notes, reassessments, discharge summaries, and required billing documentation. Ensures patient charges are completed on the date of service.

7. Utilizes clinical reasoning and professional judgment to prioritize patient care, determine appropriate interventions, and collaborate with other professionals when consultation is indicated.

8. Maintains professional competence by participating in professional development activities and remaining current with evidence-based practice and regulatory requirements impacting occupational therapy services.

9. Ensures a safe therapeutic environment, including implementation of appropriate patient safety procedures, monitoring equipment and supplies for safe use, and maintaining an organized treatment area.

10. Complies with all facility policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Quality Improvement: Actively participates in the Hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program, actively supports and implements Department-specific Quality improvement initiatives and projects, recommends process improvement as appropriate, reports any quality issues in service delivery and consistently commits to a focus on quality improvement and organizational excellence.

Disaster Management: As an employee of Penobscot Valley Hospital, the position has an inherent role to care for our community members when in need. To this regard, the incumbent will be expected to participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current license or license eligible in the state of Maine.
  • CPR certified or eligible.

Ability to problem solve, effective verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge base to include occupational therapy assessment and treatment for all age groups from pediatric to geriatric.

Valid Maine driver’s license.
