As a Dentist, you will provide professional dental care for clinic patients following established standards, practices, and protocols. Maintain patient confidentiality and ensures compliance with HIPAA policies and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs a complete oral examination and assessment of new and existing patients:

• Evaluates the medical and dental history of patients.

• Examines x-rays; reviews patients’ records, charts, and other pertinent information.

• Records findings in patient chart.

• Diagnoses and treats conditions of the mouth and teeth:

• Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures to assist in evaluation of patients.

• Exercises independent judgment and develops treatment plan to address the acute and long term dental needs of patient.

• Removes decay, fills cavities, places protective sealants on children’s teeth, performs extractions, performs selective restorative work (ex. bridges, crowns, dentures), completes cleanings and performs root canals.

• Refers patients to specialists as appropriate.

• Provides patient education:

• Interviews and advises patients regarding dental maintenance and oral health (including medication and treatment instructions).

• Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs as needed.

• Evaluates the dental hygiene prophy upon completion.

• Per licensing guidelines, administers medications and injections.
• Supervises the clinical performance of the dental assistants and hygienists as appropriate, providing feedback on performance as needed.
• Provides monitoring and continuity of care between clinic visits as required.
• Manages dental emergencies.
• Works closely with Chief Dental Officer to ensure quality patient care.
• Works closely with Chief Dental Officer to ensure individual provider productivity goals are reached.
• Remains current in advanced practice changes within area, and where relevant, translates these findings into clinical practice.
• Actively participates in patient complaint procedures to resolve operational problems.
• Attends and participates in meetings and in-services as required. Participates in professional development activities. Serves on committees as requested.
• Performs duties in accordance with NHC Standards of Conduct and Mission Statement.
• Performs related work as required and other duties (similar physical requirements and OSHA risk level) as assigned.

• Information Technology/Dental Equipment – proficient in the use of computers and other dental equipment/instruments to administer patient care and accurately retrieve/record patient data.

Required Qualifications

Education / Training - D.D.S. or D.M.D Dental Degree from an accredited Dental School.

Experience: Experience in a clinic setting preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Indiana State Dental license and DEA license. CPR Certified. TB Certified.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged sitting, standing, some stooping, bending and stretching. Requires full range of body motion and manual dexterity necessary to complete patient dental exam and treatment. Requires eye-hand coordination sufficient to operate dental instruments, equipment, and computer keyboard.

Requires ability to carry items weighting up to 50 lbs. Requires ability to handle and assist patients. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions. Require exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

Work Environment

Normal Dental office environment. Work may include irregular hours, including evenings and weekends. Involves frequent contact with other staff, doctor’s offices, patients, and the public. Contact may involve dealing with sick, angry, or upset people. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. OSHA Category I - Tasks involve contact with blood or body substances.
