Part-time Dentist

To deliver comprehensive, quality healthcare in an efficient and cost effective manner to the people of the community. As a member of the Healthcare team, and lead by the Chief Dental Officer, the General Dentist is vital to the successful completion of the organization goal.

Each clinical team member receives performance measures and patient satisfaction results and is given the opportunity to participate in the development of a plan for improvement through regular QA meeting and or action plan development.

• Majority of the time will be on Mobile Unit.
• This position might require some travel to all our sites that will include Perth Amboy, Carteret, and Newark.

Responsibilities

Functional Duties and Responsibilities:

Examines individuals requesting care, diagnosis their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.

Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. In addition the Staff Dentist shall complete referrals, data collections instruments and other records or paper works as shall be required from time to time by the corporation.

Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.

• Serves on the dental staff and other center committees as assigned.
• Prepares specific reports as requested by the community health center’s Chief Dental Officer.

Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of community health center staff as requested.

Designs, develops, and implements appropriate Dental Department policies, protocols and procedures as directed by the Chief Dental Officer which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards.

Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested.

Participates in short and long term program planning for the Dental Department and the agency, including development of goals and objectives.

Provides consultation to the CEO and the Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues in the absence of the Chief Dental Officer.

Travels when necessary to fulfill the Medical Center’s needs and attends meetings as necessary to represent the Medical Center and/or the Dental Department.

Assists in the coordination and integration of the Medical Center’s dental programs and services with other programs and services for the welfare of the Medical Center’s patients.

Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality.

• Participates in recruitment/retention activities of the Medical Center as necessary.
• As directed by the Chief Dental Officer, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited dental school;
• Must possess a State of NJ License;
• Must possess a CDS License and DEA License issued by the State of NJ;
• Must possess a current CPR/BLS certification;
• Completion of an accredited general practice residency program is preferred;
• At least 2 years’ experience in current field is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required;
• Prior experience in a comprehensive, ambulatory care setting is preferred; experience in a health care team delivery; experience with inner city populations;
• Bilingual preferred but not required.
