Additional Considerations:**
It’s essential that the provider is either a pediatric hospitalist with a solid background in neonatology or a neonatologist comfortable managing pediatric cases.
The role primarily involves caring for NICU patients down to 32 weeks gestational age, handling newborn resuscitations, and managing 32-week preemies and older.
The caseload is approximately 80% NICU patients and 20% pediatric patients.
Please note that while UVC and UAC placements fall under central line procedures, they are permitted only for neonates. Central line insertions outside of this context are not practiced. ED physicians and anesthesia providers usually perform pediatric intubations and chest tube placements in the emergency department, where they have significantly more experience in these areas.
