Job Description

Olympic Medical Physicians’ hospitalist team serves Olympic Memorial Hospital in Port Angeles, Washington.

The Pediatric Hospitalist provides hospital-based care for pediatric and newborn patients, including consultation for pediatric patients in the Emergency Department, admission and management of pediatric inpatients, and attendance at high-risk deliveries with responsibility for newborn stabilization and neonatal resuscitation.

The physician works closely with Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery, nursing, respiratory therapy, anesthesia, specialty consultants, and other facilities to provide safe, timely, person- and family-centered care.

Candidates with combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics training may also support the adult hospitalist service within their training, credentials, and granted privileges; however demonstrated pediatric inpatient and neonatal capabilities are essential to this position.

Education

Medical degree from an accredited school.

Successful completion of an ACGME- or AOA-approved postgraduate training program in Pediatrics or combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics.

Meets requirements for board certification or board eligibility in Pediatrics. Candidates with combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics training should also meet requirements for board certification or board eligibility in Internal Medicine.

Maintains appropriate continuing medical education credits per Washington State and OMC Medical Staff requirements.

Experience

Completion of Pediatric or combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency training.

Demonstrated competence in the evaluation and management of hospitalized pediatric patients, including recognition and stabilization of pediatric emergencies.

Demonstrated competence attending high-risk deliveries and performing neonatal resuscitation. Recent delivery-room and neonatal resuscitation experience preferred.

Two years of post-residency hospital-based pediatric practice preferred; experience in a rural or community hospital setting is desirable.

Licensure/Credentials

Board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics. Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics certification/eligibility is preferred when adult hospitalist support is expected.

  • Maintains current DEA registration.
