Shift Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Work Location: 202 Graham Avenue, Brooklyn, New York

Why You’ll Love Working at JASA

JASA is one of NYC’s largest and most trusted nonprofits serving older adults. Our dedicated professionals help improve the lives of thousands of seniors through impactful, mission-driven work.

  • Meaningful Impact: Stand on the frontlines of elder justice, providing lifesaving crisis intervention, comprehensive safety planning, and emotional support to older adults experiencing mistreatment or abuse.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work side-by-side with JASA Legal Services for Elder Justice, multidisciplinary teams, and community partners to deliver holistic, client-centered advocacy.
  • Clinical Supervision & Growth: Receive weekly individual and group clinical supervision, specialized training in trauma-informed modalities, and continuous professional development opportunities.

What You’ll Be Doing

The Elder Abuse Prevention Social Worker / Case Manager plays an essential role in safeguarding vulnerable older adults facing physical, emotional, psychological, or financial abuse.

Conducting work across in-home, in-office, and community settings, you will evaluate client needs, create tailored safety and service plans, and deliver supportive counseling.

This role requires clinical insight, cultural humility, and proficiency with electronic case management systems to protect older adults’ autonomy and well-being.

You will guide clients through the resolution of crisis situations, coordinating closely with protective services, legal advocates, and community resources to establish long-term stability and security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment & Safety Planning: Conduct comprehensive in-home, in-office, and community assessments of emotional, social, and physical needs for seniors reporting abuse; formulate and execute multi-faceted service and crisis safety plans.
  • Clinical Counseling & Crisis Intervention: Provide supportive individual counseling using evidence-based modalities (including Motivational Interviewing) to seniors, family members, or caregivers; identify emergency cases and lead rapid crisis interventions.
  • Benefits & Entitlements Navigation: Screen and assist clients in securing and maintaining critical public benefits, including Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, Cash Assistance, Home Care, Meals on Wheels, transportation, and emergency financial relief.
  • Legal & Agency Advocacy: Coordinate direct referrals to JASA Legal Services for Elder Justice and partner legal organizations; connect clients to community-based health and social resources.
  • Peer Support & Group Work: Facilitate empowerment-oriented group counseling sessions designed to reduce isolation, build community, and strengthen peer networks among older adults.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Maintain thorough, prompt, and audit-ready electronic case notes and assessments in web-based databases in accordance with JASA and funder standards.
  • Outreach & Professional Practice: Lead community education, prevention presentations, and professional outreach; actively engage in weekly supervision, case conferences, and mandatory trainings.

What You’ll Need

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) or an equivalent Master’s-level degree in Gerontology, Psychology, Human Services, or a closely related field required.
  • Clinical Experience: Demonstrated experience in individual and group counseling, with practical knowledge of modalities such as Motivational Interviewing and trauma-informed care.
  • Field Mobility: Ability to travel across New York City via public transportation to conduct client home visits and navigate physical residential barriers independently.
  • Technical Skills: Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and manage daily documentation within web-based case management platforms.
  • Communication & Cultural Competence: Exemplary written and verbal communication skills; a deep understanding and appreciation of diversity across race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency (e. g., Spanish, Haitian-Creole, Russian, or Mandarin) is strongly preferred.
