Occupational Therapists (OT) provide many wide-ranging services to help patients improve their ability to perform normal activities of daily living.

Whether from a physical injury, stroke, cognitive differences, surgery or general aging, your work as an OT helps maximize their confidence in performing self-care, working and managing life responsibilities.

Within the Child Rehab Department, you will assist younger patients, offering the opportunity to implement early interventions to enhance their independence later in life. Every day, your efforts can make a lasting and meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their loved ones.

This is a full-time role. A caregiver in this position will work between 7:00am and 6:30pm. This position will be based out of Westlake 3 days a week and will float 2 days a week to any of the following: Beachwood, Medina, CC Children’s Hospital Rebab, Middleburg Heights and Stow/Falls.

A Caregiver Who Excels in This Role Will

Evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and/or psychosocial deficits which impact their abilities to successfully perform independent living skills.

Assess patient ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills and design the appropriate plan of care, including type and frequency of treatment.

Implement the treatment plan using appropriate modalities and document subjective and objective findings of patient progress.

• Educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits.
• Direct and supervise the activities of support personnel.
• Act a clinical instructor or participate in the education and evaluation of students.
• Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor’s Degree

• Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association
• Current Ohio licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT)
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Healthcare Provider Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
• Experience in a clinical area

Physical Requirements

Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling.

Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.

Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.

• Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.
• Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.
• Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.

Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.
