Job Details: Job Location: Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe - Kingston, WA, Position Type: Full Time - 30 - 40 hrs/week, Education Level: 4 Year Degree - Required, Salary Range: $24.81 - $33.49Hourly, Travel Percentage: Occasional travel to trainings, The Behavioral Health Prevention Specialist coordinates culturally responsive behavioral health prevention and wellness initiatives for the Community Health Center and the Tribal community.

The position supports suicide, mental health, substance misuse, and overdose prevention through community engagement, culturally based programming, training, assessment, strategic planning, referral and resource navigation, evaluation, and grant implementation. The Specialist collaborates with Tribal programs, community members, youth and young adults, cultural leaders, providers, and community partners to strengthen protective factors, reduce barriers to services, and promote behavioral health and wellness aligned with PGST culture, values, and priorities.

Duties

Include: Project Coordination and Grant Management: Coordinate the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of behavioral health prevention and wellness initiatives that address mental health, suicide, substance misuse, overdose, crisis prevention, resilience, and protective factors.

Coordinate assigned grant activities, including goals, timelines, performance measures, deliverables, documentation, and reporting. Participate in community assessments, strategic planning, and program evaluation, and use findings to identify needs, service gaps, disparities, and opportunities for improvement.

Ensure activities are culturally responsive, trauma-informed, community-driven, and consistent with applicable evidence- and practice-based approaches.

Prevention and Community Engagement Plan and coordinate community-based prevention, education, cultural, social, and skill-building activities that strengthen resilience, belonging, cultural identity, healthy relationships, life skills, recovery, and overall wellness.

Conduct outreach and engagement with Tribal youth, young adults, families, and community members, including those facing barriers to participation or services.

Engage community members and young adults in planning and evaluating prevention activities through advisory groups, coalitions, assessments, and other opportunities for community input.

Collaborate with cultural teachers, elders, Tribal programs, and community partners to incorporate PGST culture, traditions, values, and strengths into programming.

Training and Education: Coordinate and deliver behavioral health prevention and awareness education for Tribal staff, community members, youth, families, providers, and partner organizations.

Coordinate approved suicide-prevention and early-intervention training, including QPR, and provide education on mental health, substance misuse, overdose prevention, crisis response, protective factors, and available resources. Develop and maintain prevention, outreach, educational, and resource materials.

Attend required training, meetings, and professional development to maintain knowledge and skills relevant to the position.

Referral, Crisis Prevention, and Systems Improvement Assist individuals, families, staff, and community partners in identifying and connecting to appropriate behavioral health, substance use, crisis, social support, and community resources.

Support the development and maintenance of referral and follow-up systems in coordination with clinical and program staff.

Assist in reviewing and improving policies, procedures, protocols, and resource pathways related to prevention, crisis response, suicide prevention/postvention, referral, follow-up, and safe messaging.

Identify systemic barriers to services and collaborate with Tribal programs and partners to strengthen access, coordination, and continuity of support.

Partnerships and Collaboration Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Tribal programs, schools, behavioral health providers, community organizations, coalitions, and local, state, federal, and Tribal partners.

Participate in community coalitions, advisory groups, committees, and prevention initiatives that advance program objectives. Promote coordination and resource sharing among programs serving youth, young adults, families, and the broader community.

Represent the program at Tribal, community, regional, state, and federal meetings as assigned. Data, Evaluation, and Reporting Collect, maintain, and monitor program data, including participation, outreach, referrals, training, partnerships, activities, outcomes, and other required performance measures.

Collaborate with evaluators and program partners to review and use data to assess outcomes and guide program improvements. Prepare or assist with required grant, performance, statistical, and narrative reports, and maintain documentation supporting program activities and grant compliance.

Maintain accurate, confidential records in accordance with applicable Tribal, grant, and health information requirements. Personal Contacts: Maintain regular, positive contact with patients, staff, community members, and others to achieve tribal objectives and preserve good public relations.

Develop and support strong, positive relationships with Local, State, and Federal partners.

Maintain confidentiality and uphold the health center’s reputation by exercising sound judgment in public communications, including by refraining from social media posts or other public statements that could harm the health center, its clients, services, or community partnerships.

Remote Work: This position is eligible for situational remote work as needed. The schedule must be discussed with and approved by the supervisor and the director and may change based on role and department needs. Other Duties as Assigned.

Education and Certifications: A bachelor's degree in human services or a related field is required. Certified Prevention Specialist certification required within one year of hire Driver's license – Required First Aid and CPR certification is required. Naloxone Training to be completed within the first 3 months of hire.

Experience: Requires a lifestyle free from the issues associated with alcohol and other drugs, demonstrating the ability to serve as a positive role model.

The individual shows a strong commitment to behavioral health, recovery, personal wellness, and healthy decision-making, while also maintaining professional boundaries. Experience engaging and supporting youth, young adults, families, or communities in behavioral health, prevention, or related human services.

Knowledge of suicide prevention, mental health promotion, substance misuse prevention, and community-based prevention approaches. Demonstrated skills in grant or program management, public speaking, facilitation, training, program development, evaluation, strategic planning, and data collection.

Ability to build effective working relationships with Tribal programs, community members, and local, state, federal, and other partners. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic communication systems.

Physical Requirements: Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms Frequently required to walk, sit, stand. Occasionally required to lift and move up to 25 pounds. Normal audio and visual acuity Travel Requirements: Local, Statewide, and out-of-state travel may be required.
