Range: $69,479 to $104,218 Bonus/Commission Eligible: No Position Summary The Speech Language Pathologist helps children build communication skills that open doors to connection, confidence, and joyful participation in their world.
Therapy is provided in partnership with families and grounded in practices that honor each child’s cultural, physical, emotional, and developmental needs. Services are delivered across center based and community settings in compliance with Birth to Three, Medicaid, DPI, and medical guidelines.
As part of Penfield’s therapy team, the Speech Language Pathologist plays a key role in supporting each child’s growth during the most important years of development.

Responsibilities
Therapy & Child Support: Evaluate speech, language, and communication delays using developmentally appropriate assessment tools Provide individualized therapy in center based and community settings to support communication, social emotional development, and daily functioning Modify therapeutic activities to meet each child’s cultural, physical, emotional, and developmental needs Maintain compliance with Birth to Three, DPI, and medical guidelines.
Family Partnership: Collaborate with families to develop functional communication goals and strategies that fit daily routines Provide coaching, education, and clear communication to strengthen family confidence and engagement Participate in IFSP development and family meetings as required.
Collaboration & Teamwork: Work within a transdisciplinary team to coordinate care, share insights, and support whole child development Maintain positive, professional interactions with children, families, colleagues, and community partners Documentation & Compliance: Complete documentation, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately and within required timelines.
Ensure records support billing, compliance, and continuity of care Follow all agency policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements Professional Practice Maintain required licensure, certification, and continuing education Implement evidence based practices and stay current with developments in the field Support a safe, nurturing environment that promotes positive interactions among children.
Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Required Education and Experience Licensed by the state of WI as a Speech Language Pathologist Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC SLP) Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle during working hours Foundational experience in pediatric speech and language assessment and intervention gained through clinical rotations, internships, or professional practice Preferred Education and Experience Licensed by the WI Department on Public Instruction Experience working within Birth to Three, early childhood education, or interdisciplinary pediatric therapy teams Familiarity with IFSP development, family coaching models, and evidence based early intervention practices Experience supporting children with diverse cultural, linguistic, developmental, and social emotional needs Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to evaluate communication needs and select appropriate, evidence based interventions for infants and young children Ability to provide speech and language service in center based, home based, and community settings, adapting strategies to natural environments Skill in coaching caregivers, supporting carryover, and communicating progress in a clear, compassionate manner Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including timely documentation, family communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration Ability to travel throughout Milwaukee County to provide services in natural environments Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in the use of adapted or specialized communication equipment or AAC tools Strong understanding of infants and early childhood development across domains Bilingual or multilingual abilities to support families Experience with ISFP development, family coaching models, or Birth To Three practices Physical
Requirements
Must meet all required health and safety clearances in accordance with Penfield Children’s Center policy, including an annual flu vaccine. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and squat frequently throughout the workday.
Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively to supervise children, respond to verbal cues, and ensure safety in a busy environment Ability to work for extended periods in a dynamic, occasionally noisy environment. Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk or computer workstation.
Ability to sit at floor level and transition safely between floor and standing positions. Ability to use hands and fingers for repetitive tasks such as typing, filing, handling documents, and operating equipment. Ability to view computer screens, read printed materials, and accurately process written information.

Candidates must be licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist in Wisconsin and hold a current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence. A valid driver's license and foundational experience in pediatric speech and language assessment are required.
