General Description
Under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the Oncology/Infusion Pharmacist is a specialized clinical pharmacist responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and financially responsible use of oncology and biologic therapies within the outpatient infusion center.
This role provides dedicated oncology expertise embedded directly within infusion center operations, supporting high-risk medication management, complex treatment protocols, REMS compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration with oncology providers, nursing, and financial access teams.
The pharmacist serves as the primary pharmacy liaison for oncology infusion services and plays a key role in optimizing clinical quality, operational efficiency, patient access, and cost stewardship for infusion therapies.

Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive review and verification of oncology and biologic infusion orders, including regimen validation and protocol adherence, dose-calculations and patient specific dose adjustments, review of laboratory values and clinical parameters, optimization of supportive care therapies.
- Ensure adherence to evidence-based oncology protocols, pathways, and institutional standards.
- Collaborate directly with oncology providers regarding regimen selection, modifications, and therapy optimization.
- Serve as clinical resource for complex oncology pharmacotherapy questions.
- Function as the primary pharmacy liaison to oncology providers and the infusion center.
Collaborate with pharmacy purchasing and inventory staff to ensure timely availability of scheduled infusion medications, anticipate high-cost, limited distribution or short-supply products, assist with regimen forecasting and inventory planning to minimize drug waste.
Work collaboratively with nursing and financial access teams to identify and support patients eligible for manufacture discount programs, patient assistance programs, and replacement drug programs.
- Support medication access strategies that reduce financial burden to both patients and the organization.
- Lead and support formulary management for outpatient infusion medications
Lead and support Oncology Safety Committee including strengthening chemotherapy safety controls and hazardous drug handling practices, by supporting regimen standardization and reduction of medication errors and near-misses, by promoting compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and audit requirements, and contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives within oncology pharmacy services.
Manage REMS medications within the infusion center including enrollment, certification and documentation requirements, ongoing compliance monitoring and reporting, staff education and training, and audit readiness support.
- Develop oncology specific competencies, reference tools, and training materials.
- Competently compound hazardous and non-hazardous medications
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
- Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area.
Requirements
Formal Education
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required, Pharm.D. preferred. Completion of a PGY-1 Residency (equivalent to approximately 2–3 years of focused clinical experience) required. PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency preferred
Work Experience
Minimum of 2-3 years of oncology or infusion-related pharmacy experience
Demonstrated knowledge of oncology and/or biologic pharmacotherapy and high-risk medication management. REMS program management experience. Hazardous drug handling and sterile compounding experience
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
- Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) preferred
- Clear/active State of Florida Pharmacist License.
