Position Summary

The Clinical Research Dentist is a qualified and currently licensed dental professional responsible for performing specialized oral examinations and assessments on human research participants. This role strictly adheres to approved study protocols, ensuring scientific integrity, ethical conduct, and meticulous data collection within a clinical research environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform specified oral examinations and assessments on research participants according to approved, detailed study protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Conduct procedures such as plaque indices (e. g., Modified Turesky), gingival indices (e. g., Loe-Silness), and comprehensive oral examinations as required by study protocols.

Ensure all examinations and data collection are performed consistently, accurately, and with meticulous adherence to study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

• Maintain participant comfort, safety, and privacy throughout the examination process.
• Strictly follow all instructions and procedures outlined in IRB-approved research protocols.
• Participate in all required study-specific training and certifications to ensure proficiency and consistency in examination techniques.
• Contribute to the quality of research data by performing examinations with high precision and accuracy.
• Assist in identifying and documenting any protocol deviations related to examination procedures.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records of all examination findings as required by the study protocol.

Assist in the documentation of any Adverse Events (AEs) or Serious Adverse Events (SAEs) observed during examinations, adhering to study-specific reporting requirements.

Adhere to clients’ internal policies, Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations, and relevant guidelines pertaining to human research.

Skills & Proficiencies

• Exceptional understanding of oral anatomy, physiology, and standardized examination techniques.
• Proficiency in performing detailed and consistent oral examinations and assessments according to research protocols.
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills for documentation and protocol adherence.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with research participants.
• Ability to strictly follow instructions and procedures.
• Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct in human research and participant safety.

Education and Experience:

Licensure: Current, active, and unrestricted license to practice their respective field of dentistry (e. g., DDS, DMD) in the state of Ohio.

Minimum of 3-5 years of post-licensure experience in general oral examinations or a related dental field is preferred.

Experience in a clinical research environment performing oral examinations is preferred.
